An interesting article about a very obese Tory Councillor Chris Steward and his views on food banks, I wonder what the users of the food banks in Rotherham would think of his comments?
No doubt if this individual lived in the area controlled by Westminster he would have to get fit.

We certainly have an issue with obesity in this country, which is running at 25% and a further 25% are over weight. This then causes further epidemics such as diabetes 2, heart disease and cancer. Yes as a society we have to think about the bigger picture, however when people choose to abuse themselves, there has to be something done about it, when it effects the rest of us. The NHS isn’t a free service that many make it out to be and the service to the rest of us who rarely use it is poor.
I wonder if our corpulent well-fed York friend is a stockbroker by any chance?

Not the one I encounter both professionally and personally, Save the Children a charity associated with addressing hunger in the developing world are active in communities across the UK fighting the impact of poverty and its consequences on the lives of disadvantaged children.
Mums –Net the on-line lobby group is actively encouraging individuals to donate their time FOC to the Tressell Trust, the Trust operates Food Banks in towns across the country, read their criteria for accessing a food parcel, not a position I would like to be in.
No doubt there are other Tory supporters that think it is acceptable for families and individuals to meet the Tressell criteria while Cameron gives himself and other millionaire’s tax breaks.
The same families are targeted by the likes of Wonga a company that has made donations to the Tory party, Shelter have some sound advice on how to stay clear of short term loan companies.
The corrosive debate started by the Tories ahead of the vote on benefits fails to mention that the vast majority of families facing cuts to their benefits are in work, working for wages at the minimum wage or just above it, do you heat or eat?
I bet Cllr Chris Steward has never had to make that decision.

Yes maybe people abuse the system at both ends – so, in that case, in a recession when resources are tight, you go for the BIGGEST offenders first – ie: MPs fiddling expenses, bankers rich tax evaders, multi nationals etc. Morality, unlike wealth is more likely to “trickle down”… Otherwise your pompous pronouncements against those “at the bottom” will come back to bite you. This Councillor is beyond a disgrace…words fail me. This country is going backwards into the 18th Century…

Eric Pickles is adamant in claiming that just has some councils have become fat, bloated and top heavy and need to slim down, this also applies to individuals, can’t think who he means!
