Shamed expenses cheat Denis MacShane will not be prosecuted...for swearing down a megaphone during a demonstration last year. The former Rotherham MP was reported to the police after launching a four-letter tirade in front of a crowd in October, but no further action is to be taken due to lack of evidence.

He might not be so lucky the next time the cops come calling...

  1. Peter Thirlwall says:

I think the above cake is the one the Rotherham Constiuency Labour Party presented to him following the Met Police dropping their inquirey into his fraudulent expenses claims. Any sensible person would at least have waited until the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standares had also completed his successful inquirey, but not the Labour Party. I always knew they were thick, but not quite that thick. What a load of complete plonkers they are.

well he cant have his cake and eat it it seems Peter. London Met Police have announced today they are reopening criminal investigations into his expense claims

  2. The news article re the incident said “a complaint was made to South Yorkshire Police by a resident about Mr MacShane’s language which, the complainant said, had offended some Australian visitors.” – Offended Australians!? Must have been very BAD language!!! – lol

  3. Some of us could use stronger terminology than “plonkers” Peter, but yes they certainly are.
Lack of evidence ? What sort of evidence could there be apart from those who were there and heard him ? As it was also reported in the Rotherham Advertiser, is this a sign that all that we read in that paper is not always correct information ? Or more likely, another sign that no matter how disgracefully our MP’s behave they will not be prosecuted and can continue being above the law which the rest of us have dutifully obey.

Could there have been some influence from our newly elected PCC and his deputy seeing as we now have totalitarian political control of our Police Service in South Yorkshire. It does make you think!

  4. Malcontent says:

It was reported that during the by-election campaign Councillor Ahktar used abusive and obscene language to people from Respect who were merely excercising their democratic right to canvas. Surprised there hasn’t ben a complaint made against him, particularly when there had also been previous complaints by members of other poiltical parties that he had made “death threats” to them whilst they were canvasing.

  5. Maybe he needs some humble pie followed by a dose of porridge – not cake

    • rothpol says:

This exercise of hubris must surely be one of the worst misjudgements, ever! A period of porridge awaits!

The only way the Met and CPS can expunge their embarrassment is to put MacShane behind bars.
