This post is politically restricted

I personally believe that the chief constable was the man to do the job, it now means we will paying for two people to do the one job. it sounds like another job for the boys and even though the PA’s job is advertised, is that not just a procedure they follow, before giving it to somebody they already know. It is time for the police to get out of their offices and cars and start showing themselves in public places, prevention is better than the cure. I am sure my grandad who was chief inspector in Sheffield, would have a few things to say about this, if he was still alive. How many of the public didn’t bother to vote, not because they didn’t know about it, but because they want to vote on things that matter, like the EU.
There is a lot of conflated propositioning in your statement Tim. Are you suggesting that the chief constable should be the new PCC’s secretary? I agree with your sentiment about police on the beat but the polce establishment subsequent to your grandfater have colluded in the destruction of preventative policing . Hidebound by the political strictures of common purpose and political correctness they have abandoned those who do not consent to the law to their own devices, and out of frustration and guilt, persecuted those who do consent to the law in order to salve their collective conscience and achieve the ludicrous targets set for them.
The police force is far too influenced by political persuasion, the PCC will make it even more knee jerk. The police need to go back to the basics and actually start talking to the public and protecting them. I am not saying everything that the police did was perfect in the 60′s, but at least the public saw them as friends, protectors and fair. I haven’t seen a police man on the beat for years, there aren’t even the special constables walking around any more. All you tend to see is the police flying around in cars, but where are they going. The police seem more bothered about the rights of the criminals than the victims, or picking on the person trying to avoid doing something wrong, rather than the person who goes out of their way to do something wrong. I would put everybody on a register who is a danger to the public for all to see, I have a right to know if that person is a neighbour, work colleague, friend or family member. Not that I agree with vigilante action either.
How much help does Shaun Wright need to do his rather well paid job? Does anyone know if he’s actually DONE anything since he came to office (other than spending lots of public money, that is)?
Still, it’s an interesting ad for the vacancy, the most interesting bit being the very last sentence: “This post is politically restricted”? What does that mean?
I thought it was a bit of a joke when both PCC and his Deputy remain labour councillors!
Perhaps they are trying to say that the post is restricted to other Labour supporters, rather than subject to certain provisions of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, :~)
@timawells suggests ” I would put everybody on a register who is a danger to the public for all to see, I have a right to know if that person is a neighbour, work colleague, friend or family member.”
Maybe they should also be tattooed with a number on their forehead or arm?
…and who is going to make the judgements on who is a danger to the public?
Regular reader. I would just make the police check system more transparent, where if you are a danger for what ever reason that I can check without paying and without delay. If ultimately people in certain professions have to be police checked for working with children and it is about the safety of a child, ultimately shouldn’t the parents be the first to be police checked. Would you like your neighbour to be a threat to you or your family and have no idea. I had a stalker for three months and this person was a danger to the rest of society and the response from the police was of little benefit.
The post is indeed politically restricted.
Restricted to card carrying members of the Labour Party, a Labour Councillor, a former Labour Councillor, the partner of a Labour Councillor or any extended family member of a Labour Councillor.
Now that’s equal opportunities in action.
I thought the fascists in social services had been pruned but it seems you´re all headed back into Thacker territory.
“The post is indeed politically restricted.” Bit like foster parenting
Dear Anonymous, no Local Authority Councillor can hold a “Politically Restricted” post, however all the others you mention can.
See: Local Government and Housing Act 1989, Section.

_____________
If only it could have read “The past is politically restricted” .
From The Equalities Commission in answer to my email;
However, politically restricted does not mean that you must not hold a certain belief or cannot do the job if your belief conflicts with the police crime commissioner’s but it does mean that you will be prevented from having any active political role either in or outside the workplace.
Politically restricted employees will be automatically disqualified from standing for or holding elected office. It will also prevent you from; participating in political activities, publicly expressing support for a political party or undertaking other activities such as canvassing on behalf of a person who seeks to be a candidate; and speaking to the public at large or publishing any written or artistic work that could give the impression that you are advocating support for a political party.
This stems from the Local Government and Housing Act (LGHA) 1989. Unfortunately the Equality Act 2010 cannot be used to challenge this legislation as it is a statutory provision (a legal provision set out in an Act of Parliament). This is explained in schedule 22 of the Equality Act 2010.
This could also not be challenged using the Human Rights Act 1998 due to the fact there has already been important case law which stated that this was not a breach of human rights law – Ahmed and others v United Kingdom.
Please use the link below for more information on these restrictions.

It remains to be seen if the successful applicant is aware of the conditions attached to his/her employment.
