Labour Speaks Out, but not in Rotherham! Extremely disappointing to see one of our local politicians refer to the Times reporting of the Rotherham child abuse scandal on their Twitter account as being sensationalist. I fail to understand why any … Continue reading

Myopia from Emma Hoddinott – Stasi Press Officer and Pilgrim

Dear Rotherham Politics readers,

If any reader wants to know the depths of profound myopia and vision impairment that RMBC Elected Members choose to suffer from then read this latest piece of utterly astounding and enlightening twitter-twatter-fluttering from the Pilgrim who’s the new Wickersley Ward Laybah Councillor and recent Ms Stasi Commissaress to Da Rovrum Laybah Grooip –

Emma Hoddinott ?@Emma_Hoddinott

Agree.@christophe_read:in somber mood after news over the last week. So important that council continues to improve services for vulnerable.

Which planet is this Pilgrim on?
Council improves services?
Where is this happening?

I wish I lived there, cos I know that with what’s come out this last week that it ain’t in Rovrum, and with what’s set to continue for a couple more weeks in the Times there’s no way that it can be the services overseen by the junketing higher-paid-than-Sheffield-CC RMBC Corn Fed Grunters, Muppets and Clowns.

Do please tell us Ms Stasi Commissaress where is this Nirvana of which you so excitedly speak?

Mind how ya go,
Donald H. Buxton

Don wants a response – will Shaun Wright oblige?

Dear Cllr Wright,

I note with some concern and much puzzlement that I have had neither the courtesy of an acknowledgement or of a response from you in connection with the simple questions that I e-mailed to you over a week ago on Friday, 21 September, 2012, 11:14 hrs.

I must say that I am disappointed that a politician like you who has seemingly occupied so many high profile positions as a public servant can’t respond to a citizen’s enquiry.

Perhaps you may find time from your numerous obligations over this weekend to provide me with the courtesy of either an acknowledgement or a reply.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,
Donald H. Buxton

P.S. – I am also copying this e-mail onto your weblink – http://www.shaunwright.co.uk/contact.html – to ensure safe receipt of my request.

Joyce Thacker’s priority? Find the whistle blower!

In the week that the public of Rotherham found out just how incompetent its civic leaders were you would have thought that the Director in charge of Children Services in Rotherham Joyce Thacker would have been focused on ensuring our children remained safe and that scarce resources were being used appropriately.

Not for Joyce Thacker, the Advertiser reports that she will be asking South Yorkshire Police to start an investigation into who leaked the documents to the Times, a great pity she is not more interested in investigating the grooming gangs who abuse children.

This is the week that Rotherham parents found out that Stone, Wright, Lakin, Hoddinott and Kimber all knew that if you dropped your daughter off at Meadowhall to go shopping with her friends there were young boys who would befriend them and gradually over time groom them ready to be introduced and sexually abused by their uncle and his mates.

They also withheld vital information on what signs parents should look out for, they failed to warn parents about the dangers of Clifton Park.

The abuse in Rotherham was not a one off isolated incident, the leaked documents show that the crimes go back years, they also show that hundreds of children have been at risk and they decided to close ranks, stay silent and let children be abused, as recent as three months ago Hoddinott made the biggest mistake of her life by imposing a media blackout on the crimes.

Despite the numbers of children identified at being at risk the Police have only had one successful prosecution, you have to ask yourself why, incompetence by the police, the children are plebs?

The advice on how to spot grooming given by RMBC in the Advertiser falls well short of the information parents and communities need to combat this evil menace, RMBC will now draw up its defences, blame the Murdoch press and blame parents.

The Rotherham Taxi association and Taxi company owners have questions to answer, what are they doing to stamp out this crime?

It took a national paper to draw the crimes out into the open, for over ten years the Rotherham Advertiser remained silent, and they are as culpable just as Stone and his Council are.

The other victims in all of this are the innocent members of the Pakistani community who contribute to our town in so many positive ways.

You can hope that RMBC will change, that it will publish information for parents and it will take a more robust stance with these criminals, sadly given their track record until there is a change at the top and Stone, Kimber and Thacker goes it will be business as usual.

Tuesday 25th September, 7 minutes in and 1hr 8mins Joyce Thacker in denial, shooting the messenger rather than addressing the real problem.

Day Five – Labour LGC met last night

According to Labour Party Rules, the Local Government Committee, which meets tonight in the Town Hall, is responsible for Policy and is supposed to hold Rotherham Councillors to account.

In Rotherham, the Labour Group runs everything not the LGC! There are no policies to speak of and absolutely no accountability to any one.

Unfortunately this week has seen the exposure of this most harrowing story, told this week about the grooming and sexual exploitation, of under age vulnerable children here in Rotherham by Pakistani men. (Paedophilia, trafficking and rape, to tell it right!)

The main subject for discussion tonight, should be the woeful response from those who are supposed to lead. The ten year cover up, must stop and those responsible brought to account for their calumnies.

Rotherham LGC must hold them to account for once, if the local Labour Party is not to take a full share of the blame?

Who needs to answer to Rotherham Labour LGC?

Roger Stone, Jahangir Akhtar, Mahroof Hussain, Denis MacShane, Shaun Wright, Paul Lakin, Terry Sharman and Emma Hoddinott would be good to start with.

Day Five Accountability? – Time for Action!

This was left as a comment but was too good to miss, thanks SJ, and welcome to Rotherham Politics:

How could anyone in the police, council or social services say they did not know. The Times quote horrific examples of child sexual exploitation in all of the following reports –

Home Office funded Rotherham research project dated 2002
Sexual Exploitation, Drug Use and Drug Dealing South Yorkshire Police 2003
Lessons Learned Review- Operation Central, Report to Rotherham Local Safeguarding Children Board 2010
South Yorkshire Police: Child Sexual Exploitation – A Strategic Problem Profile. Report by Force Intelligence Bureau 2010 (links would be useful, if any one has them? Rothpol.)

Shaun Wright, a member of the council and for several years its portfolio holder for children’s and young people’s services, criticised The Times for “picking on Rotherham”

I think the whole country should pick on Rotherham.

Denis MacShane said Asians and South Asians in his comments, he needs to call a spade a spade and say Pakistani and stop making excuses for these evil men. These men were nearly all Pakistani, their victims white girls, they even danced around this issue on Question Time last night.

Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin, Rotherham’s police commander, said yesterday that the actual number of victims was in the low double figures. The figures quoted by The Times were from an internal report in 2010 by South Yorkshire Police which estimated that 250-300 children were involved. It stated that these children were the victims of multiple offences over long periods so the number of offences could actually reach thousands each year.

Today in The Times newspaper, there is praise for Rochdale, with their self-critical review and state “It is a lesson, from evidence revealed by The Times this week of a decade of similar failings in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, that some authorities in England have yet to learn”

All praise and well done to whoever gave The Times the 200 confidential documents.

Lord Ahmed has said the issues of morality need to be discussed in mosques

Labour peer Lord Ahmed has called on mosque leaders in South Yorkshire to speak about the issues surrounding sex exploitation.

His comments follow a Times newspaper report of widespread abuse of girls by Asian men in the county.

It prompted MPs to order South Yorkshire Police’s chief constable to answer the claims in Parliament. Read on…….

No cover up here!

No cover up here!

The BBC Radio Sheffield interview on Wednesday 27 September 2012 will come back to haunt Deputy Leader Cllr Jahangir Akhtar.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00xztws

Two years ago Toby Foster interviewed the girl referred to as Amy in the Times article, she described horrific acts of abuse and the impact on her life, Toby Foster was very much aware of the issues before the Times ran with this week’s stories.

No cover up, please explain this Cllr Akhtar, why did Cllr Emma Hoddinott go running to the Leader Cllr Roger Stone to stop you and Cllr Ahmed from speaking out; is that not a cover up?

The matter of community sensitivities was raised, this was an interesting point in the interview, clearly Cllr Stone or Cllr Lakin should have been giving the interview as they would have possibly known that RMBC is hardwired into the issue of political correctness, examples are:

A report published 2010
Revealing the fears over the racial element to the abuse, a 2010 report  from the Rotherham Safeguarding Children Board said the crimes had ‘Cultural characteristics … which are locally sensitive in terms of diversity’, but warned of ‘sensitivities of ethnicity with potential to endanger the harmony of community relationships’.

Reason stated for not publishing serious case review from December 2011 Safeguarding minutes:

Community cohesion impact.

From the same December 2011 minutes:

Phil Morris and Zafar Saleem are to meet with Inspector Aziz next Tuesday to address any community tensions likely to arise.

Phil Morris & Zafar Saleem March 2012 Safeguarding minutes.

Phil Morris and Zafar Saleem had met with Inspector Aziz from South Yorkshire Police and this meeting did not flag up any concerns that the release of the Overview Report would cause any community tension.

And you are telling me that community cohesion is never considered by Officers from RMBC

The Times published extracts from information they had collated, it included a case on 3rd October 2008 involving a 13 year old girl found in a semi-derelict property with a large group of adult males, she was drunk and the article states that her clothing had been disrupted.

There seems to be a move afoot to discredit the files obtained by the Times, I find it hard to disbelieve the Times on this one as in interview with the Star Chief Insp Harwin confirmed that the 13 year old girl had been arrested for assaulting a police officer.

Two burly police officers in body armour and Magnum boots arrest this 13 year old strapping dangerous villain, I wonder did they take her to hospital to be checked by a Paediatrician or was it straight down to Main Street?

Cllr Akhtar lost the plot when he started to refer to the Murdoch press as a way of defending the indefensible, sadly a number of the usual suspects have jumped to their Twitter accounts to reinforce the Murdoch angle.

From what I see RMBC are in total denial, no contrition, no public awareness campaign, Cllr Akhtar did his best; however the ones in the public spotlight should be Stone, Kimber, Wright, Lakin and Hoddinott.
