Information yes, but far from complete – Don Buxton enquires further.

Dear chiefexecutive@rotherham.gov.uk

As an active and empowered citizen with a passionate interest in the costs and activities of those statutory agencies who govern us with our consent on our behalf, I thought I’d study the Declarations of Interest of those recent political appointees to the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel.

I had hoped that I could access this information from your organisation’s website direction here – http://moderngov.rotherham.gov.uk/mgCommitteeDetails.aspx?ID=937

There we have the names of those appointees –

Councillor Jahangir Akhtar
Councillor Sylvia Anginotti
Councillor Patricia Bartlett
Councillor Peter Davies
Councillor Harry Harpham
Councillor Talib Hussain
Councillor Helen Mirfin-Boukouris
Councillor Noble
Councillor Richardson
Councillor Terry Sharman

Now as a Rotherham resident for nearly 60 years I know from being a “highly critical friend” of RMBC that Cllrs Akhtar and Sharman, are Elected Members of my local council, Rotherham MBC.

But I haven’t got the foggiest idea where the other names come from, who they are, which Authority dispensed political patronage to place them on the Panel, and also I cannot access their Declarations of Interest, indeed the vague description of “Councillor Noble” leaves me no wiser as to they are male or female, or somewhere inbetween, as their first name is not recorded.

So I am somewhat sceptical that I can form an unbiased and informed opinion of their suitability, scruples, integrity and experience to fulfill their unelected roles on the Panel.

I do hope that you are able to supply me with information and help which will restore my faith in yet another lamentable failure of a statutory authority to keep the electorate and taxpayers adequately informed about the organisations they support through enforced taxation.

Yours Sincerely,
Donald H. Buxton
