If you are a landlord in one of the areas proposed make sure you take part in this important consultation. You have a voice, please make sure you use it.
News has come in of a meeting at the Unity Centre on the 29th January at 6:30pm. This meeting has been organised by Rotherham Action Group. More news when we have it!
should be good for eastwood / ferham as the crap bad (give me your money to live in a hovel) landlords have fetched these areas to the ground , got to feel for the good landlords , you only have the bad ones to blame .

I agree Ronnie, it’s essential.
Sheffield have already moved on it in Page Hall:

As Rothpol has learned, there are other points of view on this thorny issue that will emerge over time.
I am particularly concerned upon hearing, that a subset of Rotherham’s landlords, fear falling prey to yet another form of extortion, from within their own community?

Hmmm.
Well, landlord groups have all been opposed to these schemes, ever since Newham first introduced one, – as can be seen in that change.org petition. Every argument under the sun is being used against the idea.
But in the Newham consultation 74% of residents and 76% of private tenants supported the borough-wide licensing scheme.
Newham suffers from much the same types of problems as parts of Rotherham.

At the moment the area covered does not seem to cover much of Eastwood or Ferham, I do think it’s necessary but willing to listen to the other side.

The maps can be seen here http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/landlordlicensing
They cover all of the Masbrough area including the Holmes and most of Eastwood.
Please bear in mind Councillors Ali and Akhtar are landlords of properties in these two areas and any adverse criticism will be viewed as racist.

Sorry, Didn’t realise the areas covered were so far reaching – hope RMBC are going to recruit more staff they couldn’t possibly give the scheme its full potential if they offload it onto existing staff.

When does the so called consultation end?
When will the Cabinet meet to decide the outcome?
Who will be in the Cabinet?
When is the date of the next local elections?
It`s all starting to add up!

AS a landlord Akhtar should not take part in any decision, but the outcome has already been decided. The consultation is a charade!

from the meeting minutes:
Councillors Akhtar and Doyle declared personal interests in Minute No. 30 (Business Case to consider the Selective Licensing of Private Rented Accommodation) on the grounds that they were owners of properties that were rented privately and left the room whilst this matter was discussed.

It was put up over 6 months ago, only got 250 signatures so far.
The people who have signed and commented are predominantly landlords.
