  1. Someones getting worried. A few Labour candidates have had to write personal letters to electorates {Begging I call it}.
Good Luck Bernard we can do it. The Electorates have had enough.

  2. This is all Lies anyway, where in the UKIP 2014 MANIFESTO does it say that they are going to remove the minimum wage and alter taxation.
Where as for the Labour spending money unwise we all know different.

  3. “There is a huge problem created by the banks and financial systems…….”
Remind me, which party was in power when our economy went into meltdown?
“Currently the Early Years provision is under threat”. Under threat because you voted for the budget which included closure of Sure Start centres.
You failed to answer the questions about the ÂŁ488 million debt you and your fellow Labour councillors have saddled us with plus the ÂŁ8 million per annum interest payment to service this massive debt.
Your fellow Labour councillor Judy Dalton (Her of the photo opportunity) prefers to spend her time canvassing in other area of the borough instead of in Anston. There you have it; You’ve been written off by Akhtar and your Labour buddy has abandoned you.
I’m sure you know where your nearest Job Centre is.

  4. I find your letter offensive to the good people of Anston and Woodsetts Cllr Burton. Please remind the electorate who was in power during the financial meltdown and leading with ineffectual management and a spend, spend, spend mentality effectively bankrupting the country? Please explain to the electorate why under your watch the precept for Anston and Woodsetts has rocketed yet services haven’t improved and some under threat? Please explain to the electorate whilst under your watch Anston Parish council have failed to collect rental incomes from allotments for over two years? This councillor Burton is our money. If you and your colleagues had an ounce of business acumen you would do your job and reduce the precept, reducing the people you purport to represent council tax bills.

Why have you supported council tax money buying a field within Anston whilst Early years provision is under threat Cllr Burton? Please don’t insult the electorate by highlighting other parties policies, it appears desperate. Based on past performance It is more than ironic that you state UKIP are about “money for themselves, not services for you”. Please tell the electorate Cllr Burton how much you get paid for sitting on various panels which achieve precisely nothing.

  5. Jo. Remember the privatisation of the health service under the Labour government, through PFI and asset stripping through charitable trusts. The Labour party certainly jumped into bed with the bankers and didn’t reverse the Conservative de manufacturing. You have also compressed wages and living standards, putting immigrants before our own people. Labour councillors are total hypocrites, when blaming others and hiding behind a smoke screen of deceit. You, the Tories and Liberals are in it together. Goodbye Tim

  6. Labour – advised by Price Waterhouse Coopers, most (if not all) of shadow cabinet are millionaires, connived at MPs expense fiddliung, failed to do anything about CSE in Rotherham, want low income families on the lowest tariffs of energy companies rather than nationalising energy companies, instituted PFI which is crippling public services and which our children will be paying off for years to come, deregulated banking, failed to tackle tax evasion and avoidance – ergo: NOT, NOT, and thrice NOT on the side of ordinary people…

  7. This thread has been running since mid-morning. It is now 5:16pm and Robin Symonds has not commented. I feel cheated!
Surely RS can offer us his insight into why Labour deserve to hold onto the Anston and Woodsetts ward? Or has he-like the Labour party-abandoned all hopes of the Labour candidate winning?

  8. Don’t forget Jo Burton was Vice Chair of the committee that was responsible for the protection of vulnerable youngsters at the time grooming and abuse of young girls was taking place> When asked at Anston Parish Council (repeatedly) about the CSE scandal the eventual answer was- she didn’t know anything at all about it, which goes to show, whichever way you look at it, she is not fit for purpose.
DON’T LET ANSTON GO FOR A BURTON Folks

  9. I think she is worried, and quite rightly so.
It seems that this “letter” was rushed out after the UKIP Euro leaflet dropped through the doors. Look at where its been printed, 9 Lordens Hill, which by chance just happens to be the very same office that our MP Kevin Barron operates from. To be clanking out leaflets on a photo copier smacks of desperation.
I hope that the cost of using the office of Mr Barron (for which we the Tax payers pay ) shows up on her expense sheet after the Election. I expect to see the cost per hour for the time she was using it, and of course the number of “letters” she has printed and the cost per letter. All at a commercial rate, if not, then I don`t think Mr Barron would be happy facing an investigation in his Re-Election year.
I don`t think being abandoned by Akhtar is the least of her worries, Its been noted that this year that only Cllr St John has delivered leaflets for her, so where was the other 7 Parish Council Labour Party Members, Rats and sinking ships rings out loud.
Last but not least, Emma Dobbs, The comments you make regarding the Parish Council should be directed at the Labour Party Members on the Parish, As an Independent, I opposed the Buying of the quarter of a million pound field because they ( the labour Party Members) refused to consult correctly with the people, I opposed the Budget and Precept this year because they made false allegations against me to remove me from all Committees, (hence I was gaged) and when we had a recent meeting with a local group to discuss money issues, only Three labour Members out of nine could be bothered to turn up ( and even then one of them was late). Yes by all means bash the Council but remember its not the Independents who are dictating policy, and thus letting down the Village, its the Labour Party.

Rest assured that as an Anstonian of over 20 years standing I have no doubts which individuals stand accountable for the questions raised. Unlike the independents who have no ulterior motives we the electorate are regarded as a snooping inconvience to the labour members of APC. I am also aware cllrs Beck and Stonebridge have barely shown their faces this year, hardly suprising after their conduct of recent months. I have no cconcerns about your integrity or conduct. However I am sure you know as well as I do that one will never gain a satisfactory answer from the labour dominated Anston Parish Council who shame themselves and their party by their conduct and inability to be accountable to the people they represent.

It is refreshing to read that someone like yourself is also concerned about the behaviour of the controlling Labour group on APC. Until more residents attend Parish Council meetings they will have no knowledge of the double dealings and hypocrisy that is the norm for the Labour group.
Jo Burton failed to protect the greenbelt, she failed to oppose the RMBC budget and like her comrades in the Labour party she also had ‘no idea’ of the scale of the CSE scandal. Allegedly.
You make a very valid point about the Labour councillors on APC refusing to be accountable to the people they supposedly represent.

It is certainly time that these people were called to account. Unfortunately I am of the opinion that this is unlikely as the people who should be taking them to task are part of the same mire and not fit for purpose.
I think slowly but surely people of the ward are becoming wise to their antics. I hope this will be reflected come election day. It is time for new blood and transparency.

  11. Hopefully Judy Dalton is aware what things will be like when she comes up for re election. We now need to remove the Labour councillors such as St John, who don’t live in the village and are on the council to force Rotherham Labour policy through.

If we had a few more people like you, who actually have a grip on reality, and can see the Labour Members on APC for what they are, we would have no problems. We would have a lower Precept, no slagging off the Public, and better all round “service” for our money. That all the major decisions on the Council are made by Cllr St John and Dalton, who do not live in the village (and therefore do not pay OUR Precept) is a scandal. That the other Labour Members just sit and put their hands up when told to do so, says a lot about their integrity.
What we need is a majority of Independent Cllrs at the next Election so we can start to sort out the mess that the Council is in.
Ever thought of becoming a Councillor?.

  13. All Anston Parish Cllrs are up for Election in May 2015. The Labour majority can not now Co-opt, because we are now in a position of knowing when any vacancies occur. Gone are the days when Labour kept very quite about vacancies, then only saw fit to post the notification on one notice board near the Parish Hall. Because no one was aware of the vacancy, there was no election which enabled them to put on their friends. Since 2009 we have been able to put up a candidate against Labour in “by Elections”, and we have won everyone. Anston is moving away from Labour, we just need to push a little harder to gain a complete victory.

  14. Update:
Sir Kev, Akhtar, Falvey and Burton were busy drumming up support for Labour in the Woodlands/Caperns Road and Narrow Lane areas of Anston today. There must be an election next week because Sir Kev has taken time from his busy schedule to grace us with his presence.
    Are’nt we lucky??
This morning she was confronted by Dave Smith in Dinnington and the upshot was she very nearly denied being Vice Chair of RMBC’s Children and Young Persons scrutiny panel.(I was there)
What exactly did you do on the Panel during your time in office Jo?
