Alexis Jay Report

The political fallout begins – Roger Resigns!

“Of course there is Akhtar and his infamously propounding the ‘myths’ surrounding grooming and child sex abuse. His unconvincing repetitions of what the Council has done right since, denials that it could happen again and slandering those who question him as Islamaphobic.” Wil

  1. No one is to resign! Kimber is a disgrace….still got their heads in the sand. Let us start with the members of the scrutiny panel at that time! Some are still serving councillors, they must go today!

  2. Stone resigns. Big deal, why is Kimber still here and why has’nt Collins resigned? Stone will get a fat pay off and spend more time with his bank account.
1400 children suffered ‘appalling’ abuse over 16 years and yet Burton still stands by her story she ‘had no idea’ what was going on when she was Vice Chair of the The Children and Young People’s Services Scrutiny Panel 2007-2008. In 2009 she was an ordinary member.”Not me Guv, I know nothin’ ”
Expect a dirty fight as the rest of the dishonourable members jockey for position to take over the number two slot in this disgraced council.
I’ll wager Beck ‘forgot’ to mention the CSE inquiry while he travelled far and wide-at our expense- promoting Rotherham.
What a shambles and what a reputation for Rotherham.

  4. Stone has resigned in order that others can go undetected. What needs to be done now is to investigate who was on the Committees in 2002, when the report was “suppressed”. If they are still serving as Cllrs, then they should be going as well. If I remember rightly, was not the PCC Ex Cllr Wright in charge around this time?. His position has constantly been questioned, his involvement should now be shown (either way).
All the rats will be running around the bottom of the barrel now, fighting and biting as to who is next on Rodgers gravy train.

  5. If it was true that Jo Burton was vice chair of Rotherham children’s services 2007 and 2008 and a committee member 2009. I find it quite appalling that the people of Anston voted her back in, they should be ashamed.

  6. The next person who MUST resign because these failures is the PCC who, without doubt was fully aware of the cover-up of these child rapes. If Shaun Wright does not resign within the next 24 hours, he should be sacked by the Prime Minister. Preferably the latter just to prove what a useless, incompetent, self-serving piece of politically correct scum he is!!

They must be named and shamed, resign or be voted out of office!

I fear cut backs then and now, were/ are a factor in this.in the failure to detect and support.

Britain has to control the quality and quantity of new people into the country and if people coming here aren’t happy with British values, they shouldn’t be coming here in the first place. France is 2.7 times our size, with the same number of people, as a country we are full and should be looking after the 4/5 million British people without work or in part time employment. Doors to the country need to be closed to resolve the mess caused by the last 15 years. The racist card is getting boring.

  14. This is shocking and unbelievable.
First, lets think of how to help the ongoing recovery of victims, if at all possible.
Second let us congratulate and thank Prof Jay on not pulling any punches with mealie mouthed rhetoric to whitewash the issue. She tells it how it is.
Thirdly, let’s think of the scale of this abuse and the timescale of this abuse. Even one child abused and unprotected in such a manner on one occasion would have been bad enough and warranted not just one resignation, but surely resignations from all involved? What we actually have is the equivalent of more than the female complement of two large comprehensive schools being abused over twice the length of a pupil’s career in that school.

Yet only 5 men have been brought to justice. Prosecutions still need to happen. On top of that are the failures to stem the issue: all the warnings, reports, attempts to highlight the problem that were ignored and the shameful, gutless and morally bankrupt attempt to hide behind the race issue. This, in itself, is totally misguided as it is contrary to the long term interests of minority communities in Rotherham. If Labour dare, ever again, to bleat about the EDL marching in Rotherham they must ask themselves: “who failed to put out that particular fire?” Dennis Mc Shane should be retried, not just for expense fiddling but because he fiddled while Rotherham burned. Every councillor, senior police officer and senior council officer connected to child protection (or who held a cabinet position) in Rotherham over this period should resign with immediate effect, pending a full public enquiry, conducted externally. Rotherham, as a civic entity, is sick. Rotherham is palpably unable to protect children. Rotherham is totally unable to learn lessons for itself. We need help from outside and we need those responsible to have the guts to fall on their swords now.

    • revsimcop: The figure of 1400 childrem being sexually abused is not the true figure of abuse, for many of these children were abused and gang raped over and over for a considerable period of time. the true figure will never be known but it is considerably more than 1400! Akhtar’s relation – another vilolent criminal – made a 14 year old girl pregnant twice and when she was taken to the seaside for an holiday by social workers had the audacity to follow her there to have sex with her under their noses and that he has not, so far, faced any charges is truly scandalous!

  20. While I do appreciate how shocking this report is , can we just stop for a moment and consider what is a constructive way forward for everyone. It seems to me that there are a lot of people writing on this website who just want to see certain people resign ,and then , and then….Bless my soul, it will all be alright !!! Well I have news for you, it will noy be alright; not anywhere. There is an enormous culture out there regarding the sexual exploitation of young and vulnerable people, and that is not being addressed at all. Just targetting a few offenders and bringing them to justice , and treating that as a solution ,is well – laughable. Consider how many people are currently being investigated. We have Stuart Hall and Rolf Harris already locked up, We have had a high profile case of William Roache, there is now a suggestion of an investigation of Cliff Richard , and as for the infamous Jimmy Savile , say no more !! Interestingly enough , they are all white. I notice that has not been mentioned. Do you know what, sexual exploitation is not confined to race or gender ,or age for that matter. It is all races ,and it is girls and boys, make no mistake about that. There are reports available about Peterborough just as shocking as the one about Rotherham, and soon there will be reports about Rochdale, and maybe even Oxford and many more places if we choose to set up an enquiry. So then what will we do ? We need to be asking ourselves how such a widespread culture of abuse has developed, and how it can be addressed. We should not be taking the rather shortsighted view that getting rid of Shaun Wright or Roger Stone or Jo Burton will sort it out. It is much more complex than that, and I find it rather sad that no one so far has recognised this. In addition most sexual abuse takes place in the home, whatever the race of that family and wherever that family live, and it is the scourge of our so called modern civilisation. Rotherham is the tip of the iceberg.

    • The rather long sited view Mary is that people calling for certain individuals resignation is not purely based on malice or using CSE as an excuse to get rid. It is based on years upon years of flagrant incompetence, lack of transparency and failure to be accountable to the people they represent. Whilst I appreciate that this is a national problem the protagonists in this shocking saga should be outsed asap. They are ultimately responsible for ruining 1,400 young lives ! Shame on them.

    • Hi Mary, i agree with you that we need a positive way forward but we cant do that on the basis of complacency and that is how these leaders come over, who were in positions of ultimate responsibility for years, yet are either still arguing that they are part of the solution, or hanging on to lucrative political positions. Resignations send a message that they take the issue very seriously, and I mean resignations that take them right away from places of power. Yes, the issue must be addressed but the people of Rotherham need to have confidence that this will be addressed. That wont come if its all the usual suspects trying to clear up a mess of their own making. Incidentally, during the by election campaign i did suggest some positive ways to tackle this issue in a way that could bring all communities together and engender some grass roots responsibilty in tackling it. You can read it on my wordpress blog. In the event only 582 people agreed with me and nearly 10,000 decided to stick with the Labour regime-in-situ, which is surely discredited now? I accept that this is democracy but, by the same token, ultimately its up to the people of Rotherham to come out to protest at the next few council meetings, perition the council, stir up the local press, write to our MP and the national Labour Party demanding action – and then come out next May to make our feelings clear.

Norman Tebbit admitted Thatcher government ministers turned a blind eye to sexual abuse by other government ministers. You can’t say that there are many who identify as British, than the Orange order in Northern Ireland, but if you were to look up, what went on at the Kincorra boys home, you will find some very established British figures implicated.
How any of the above were influenced by Islam or Asian culture.
I understand, in the Rotherham case, some of the victims are from Roma backgrounds, and Asian victims for varying reasons were reluctant to come forward.
Abusers and victims, overall, come from all different backgrounds.
Never seen an EDL march over the Saville case, there is nom justification for them marching in Rotherham.
The victims needs should be priority in all of this, but I don’t see how they will gain by greater racial and religious tensions or more cut backs to cut backs to social and other services
Front line workers are not to blame.

“Several staff described their nervousness about identifying the ethnic origins of perpetrators for fear of being thought as racist; others remembered clear direction from their managers not to do so.” There we have it; managers/heads of departments playing the racist card for fear of upsetting
Asian councillors and voters. Complete and utter tosh of course because the law does not distinguish between ethnic groups. Akhtar was first elected in 2000, did he have any influence on suppressing the reports? Jo Burton was first elected in 2004, is she still going to claim she knew nothing about this? If she does then she is admitting she is as clueless as many of us believe she is.

  29. This is such devastating news, not only because the poor 1,400 children abused and deprived of their childhood. They were let down by the very systems that should have been there to protect them.
In May 2012, nine mostly British-Asian men based in Rochdale, were found guilty of offences relating to so-called localised grooming.
A year after that verdict seven more men, mainly of Pakistani heritage, were convicted of offences relating to child sexual exploitation.

When can “we” we being the public, political and legal authorities; have a civilized debate without fear of causing racism and address the cultural mindset that accepts this abhorrent behaviour. Being that children, mainly white female can be used in an exploiting sexual violent conduct.

He was one of the elected members who said they thought the criminal

I believe the CRB checking system is so flawed and that anybody who is a risk to children or adults, should be on a national register for all to see, this shouldn’t be a revenue generating scheme and just apply to people working with children or vulnerable adults. A neighbour, friend, work colleague, family member could be a risk to you and your children, they shouldn’t be protected by their human rights. Allowing mass uncontrolled immigration that doesn’t check the quality is unacceptable, we never had an issue with trafficking of people before the open borders. There is another unknown issue that we also seem to be sweeping under the carpet and that is abuse of boys, they say it accounts for 30% of all child abuse cases, this will be the next scandal to break the surface, I wonder why this particular area has been so well concealed, I have a good idea myself.

  35. Every councillor that was on the council during this period should resign, even those who pretend total innocence. The report states that seminars for all councillors were held on this subject during 2005 and 2006, it also states no one could say they didn’t know, at these seminars the abuse was presented in explicit terms. 2005 leader chaired a group to take forward the issues, no records or minutes exist. Safe guarding children’s board members did not check whether new policies were being implemented. The national Labour party should step in and withdraw the party whip from all Rotherham Labour councillors, and the Government should then step in to clear out this nest of vipers. If Miiliband does not intervene then all we can take form that is that Labour condone the actions and none actions of their own members. Plus the Rotherham electorate should attend their parish and town council meetings and demand that their borough councillors step down. The only way to sort this disgusting state of affairs is to clear them out and have a new beginning for Rotherham, this report proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that a one party dictatorship leads to abuses of power. Time for the Rotherham people to tell Labour to go.

    Like

  41. Wright should go now. Nothing more nothing less.So too should Kimber, Thacker and her cohorts. All of them.

    Why do I say this?

The senior management at RMBC / contracting agencies were aware.of CSE – so was Kimber – so too were HR – so was Thacker and her little bullying hens and South Yorks Police and the RMBC Legal team. Their response was to stamp down the boot and suppress and intimidate front line staff on a level most on here could not comprehend. The information on CSE (and the falsification of records) was passed up time and time again. the result was an organised campaign by Thacker and her little team (Aided by friendly managers) to strangle all dissent and drive out (or get rid off) any one that carried on complaining.; (If RIK still has my post from many months ago about how Thacker operated – he made it a lead thread – it would be worth re posting so all could see how controlling this woman was and still is)

As most regulars on here know I put forward several complaints in regards to related issues about 5 years ago. And I saw first hand how complaints are treated by the elite. The senior managers and execs did not deal with it as a matter of deep concern, they ignored, attacked the messenger (And anyone who supported them) and then suppressed dissent in any way they could. They then set about about a campaign using the management chain of cover up, get rid and carry on. Many staff lost careers, futures and personal physical and mental health. Many will never be able to work again.

Now I know that many politicians should pay, and they should, but if all the concentration is placed on them then what will be left place if the same old unelected hierarchy that lied and deceived (even elected officials) throughout. Yes councillors should pay, but there is a bigger threat to the future of the children in Rotherham, and that is the chief exec and Thacker and her little gang of bullies. who kept it hidden at all cost to preserve their own careers. No one can vote them out – they should all be sacked now.

To give an insight in to what happened with concerns and complaints here is a summary:

Front Line Worker raises serious issues and complains.
Front Line worker is warned off.
Front Line Worker takes it further.
Threats begin. (Serious ones) Intimidation is passed down the management chain from the top.
Daily work becomes impossible. Sanity and will starts to drain.
Front line worker finds strength and takes it further – unofficially they are warned of cuts in staff, loss of career, home, future prospects etc.
Front line worker still takes it further.
They are forced out /moved on and all points 4 and 6 come in to place with venom.
Front Line worker complains to Kimber. (who knows already)
Kimber plays lip service, uses avoidance and semantics to drag out / dismiss the complaint..
    Case dismissed.
    Further complaint and appeal.
HR come in to play to dampen the fire. However the complainee is seen as the enemy. AGain its only lip service.
    It all starts again.
Legal restrictions are imposed re speaking out while an investigation is in place…
Finally it is referred to an independent party (Not really it’s RMBC ) and the case takes several years.
Even when Kimber admits some things were going on, he argues it had no affect on practice – knowing full well it did.(even his admittance is vague)
The word is put around all agencies and departments not to employ the Front Line Worker as they are ‘trouble’..
Front line worker is seen as unemployable.
The whole process begins again with any one else who speaks out.

Believe me speak out and you walk in to a nightmare. Many on here will think it’s easy.It isn’t. You have to be prepared to sacrifice everything including the rest of your life and physical and mental well being..Many say they could do it. In reality not many can.

How do I know this? I saw many good workers loose their careers, health and reputation by following this process in the belief someone would listen. The management never do.

Today saw Jim Gamble, the former chief executive of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP),in Ulster on several news items. He perhaps .hit the nail on the head when he said, (to summaries).

1 – If the senior management and all politicians (and he said all councillors, every single one), of ALL parties in office while this was going on in Rotherham say they didn’t know it was happening – or actually claim they did something to address CSE – they should offer written historical proof and recorded details explaining why they didn’t know, or prove what they actually did to address it if they did know. They should also prove what questions they asked and what they did in response to any answers. (Innocent until guilty but prove it)
2 – Kimber / Wright/ Thacker and their senior management teams should prove they didn’t know or take full responsibility and go. They should be bound by the same guidelines he outlined in point 1.
3 – A 3rd party should look at the intimidation of front line staff and bring into line the bullies .
4 – Children throughout the kingdom are being abused at present on vast scales. (1 in 4 at top estimates) 5- A Royal commission is needed that not only investigates and reports but acts on all recommendations immediately..
6 – The cuts in services should stop now. Nationally and locally. (By the way some on here think they didn’t exist pre 21010 – they did – and major front line ones too)
7 – A national response is needed Good practice should be spread. Bad practice punished.
8 – The citizens of the land will have to look to addressing this issue themselves and take their heads out of the sand.
9 – A minister overseeing the whole issue of CSE should be appointed at cabinet level.

Now finally.some of my complaints with RMBC and agencies are still in process. The Union are supporting me,as they have throughout.(even though I am now unemployed after all this) Sarah Champion has also helped too and one case in near end. So far it has taken me nearly five years but it’s getting there. At present the ‘legalities’.prevent me (and others) from commenting or giving details (as does the confidentiality of the families) but the finish line is appearing and I will give general details when I can, if the families wish it to be. One thing is certain however ; I won’t give up.

Sorry if its a bit disjointed I am so upset and angry even though the revelations were not a shock.

  42. The list of shame goes on and on: Deputy Council Leader sent to prison for stealing, as also does the town’s MP. The previous Deputy Leader and Vice-chairman of SY Police and Crime panel had criminal convictions for violence and selling cigarettes to children, the recently elected Mayor resigns from office after three weeks and also resigns from the Labour party and is under police investigation for an alleged indecent asault on a child, the leader of the Council resigns after it’s revealed that 1400 children in the borough have been sexually abuse victims by mainly Pakistani men over a sixteen year period and the Council knew about what was happening and totally failed to protect these children! Dodson is still a Councillor and Chair of the Rotherham South Area Assembly and Stone still remains a Councillor. It appears that both of them think they can still hang on in there drawing a councillor’s expenses at least until next May.
The town is deservedly described as a prime example of a rotten borough!

  44. From one of the national papers:

A group of ‘influential’ Pakistani councillors were accused in the report by a council officer of blocking attempts to tackle the abuse and also meddling in domestic abuse cases involving Asian women in the town.

So who from these four Pakistani councillors were involved in these allegations?

Jahangir Akhtar (now thanks to UKIP, a former Cllr)
    Mahroof Hussain
    Shaukat Ali
    Shabana Ahmed

The report suggests that one Rotherham Pakistani councillor attempted to find out the location of women who had been subjected to domestic abuse, what would have that individual have done with the information?

    They should all be investigated.

  46. Rotherham = THE Town for Nonces.

When Stephen Lawrence, a black man, was murdered by white thugs and the Metropolitan police messed up the investigation, the subsequent report put their neglect down to amongst other reasons ” Institutional Racism”.
A group of men of Pakistani origin rape and abuse predominantly white vulnerable girls and those who had the responsibility to protect these girls failed because of amongst other reasons a fear of inter ethnic effects. Was this not just another form institutional racism this time in a case not of white on black, but black on white aided and abetted by white on white racism from RMBC employees, Directors, Councillors and SY Police.
Pardon me, but the difference escapes me at the moment except for the name of the offence – murder in one case and rape in the other.
