New info toward the end of the piece.

“It comes as Rotherham Council announced two interim replacements for Joyce Thacker following her departure last week. Jane Palfreman, director of Safeguarding Children and Families and Dorothy Smith, director of Schools and Lifelong Learning, are taking responsibility for the Children and Young Person’s Department until a full-time replacement is found.”

  1. The Star says that the report will be discussed at the RMBC Cabinet meeting today; the meeting agenda is up on the RMBC website along with the minutes of the previous meeting. It doesn’t appear that the meeting is being Webcast. Looks like that attempt at open democracy is over.

      • I can say from personal experience that Jack Clarkson is everything Shaun Wright wasn’t/isn’t. Firstly, he is absolutely open and honest!!. He has good experience of policing at grass roots level and to my knowledge he retired well before these terrible happenings in Rotherham occurred. He will also have first hand knowledge of the refusal by Local Authority Social Services, as was, to co-operate and often obstruct the police in investigating such terrible crimes as CSE. He will therefore continue to improve the collaboration of the 2 services to deal with these offences in the proper manner.
I cannot think of a better man for the job and I know he would have the common sense to step down immediately should a future government decide to scrap this questionable post of PCC.

  2. One of the comments on the ‘Star’ page::

“Just to add some facts to the story that the star knows.
Labour council has agreed all who’ve resigned (so far) will keep their civil servant pension.
2/3rds of final salary paid from age of 55.
Joyce’s pension will be about £77,000
For Shaun this is about £56,000 a year.
But I’m sure ‘common purpose’ will find her another job in another Labour stronghold very soon”

Can anyone confirm if this is true?
If it is then Lakin and Collins will be on the receiving end of my emails.

    • Colin, there is a reply to that Star comment – click on the little “reply” link.
      It reads:
“Oh to be a Civil Servant
Joyce Thacker was not a Civil Servant. She was a Local Government employee so had less favourable conditions of service. Up until 2008 it was based on 1/80th of final annual salary, then from 2008 to March 2014 it was based on 1/60th of final salary and now it has changed again to be based on average earnings not final salary
Shaun Wright is 46. His Pension is frozen until he reaches usual retirement age ie 65. He could apply to access it from age 55 but would lose a large proportion of his pension. Don’t even know what pension scheme he was eligible to join as P&CC
No idea how old Joyce Thacker is so don’t know if she got a pension before she left the Council or not but if she didn’t it will be frozen until age 65 with reduced access from age 55
I doubt either will get the pension amounts you give in the post above”
I suspect that much of the information in that comment is more likely to be accurate.
Even Civil Service pension rules have had recent changes.

  3. Update on my last comments:
    LGPS-Local Government Pension Scheme.

    LGPS 2014 – ‘AT A GLANCE’
    CHANGES APPLY FROM APRIL 2014
All pensions in payment or built up before April 2014 will be protected. If you are currently in receipt of a pension or have left with a deferred pension these changes do not affect you. If you are currently a contributing scheme member your pre April 2014 pension will still be based on final salary at retirement and the current Normal Pension Age.

  4. A recent tweet by Dan Jarvis MP – you can see it on this page, says that Canon Dr Alan Billings is the Labour candidate for PCC. A quick google on his name, led to this information:
Canon Dr Alan Billings is a retired Anglican priest who has served at several churches including in Sheffield where he was the Deputy Leader of the City Council.
Canon Dr Alan Billings was one of 4 short listed Labour party candidates for South Yorkshire Police Crime Commissioner last time around, along with Kash Walayat and Meredydd Hughes … and some ____ who got in.
    and also:

    and hear :
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00v378z
Looks like both UKIP and Labour will have really good candidates this time round. We are owed it
Will the Tories put someone up, or anyone else stand?
