    • There are 3 (wel lactually closer to 2.5 ) MP constituencies within Rotherham’s boundaries. Those numbers above tell us nothing about Ms Champion’s likelihood of election next time round.
      Have you ever even visited Rotherham? The demographic is complex.

  2. But that is just the Rotherham vote.
    To make any sense out of the vote – and particularly what it implies for next years’s elections, one would have to look at the breakdown by town and include the number of invalid votes and the size of the postal vote.
    If anyone can point me to where I can find that data – they would have my real and genuine thanks I’ll then put it into a spreadsheet and give it back to Rothpol for him to make it available to all of this blogs readers.

    You better deliver on your promises to sort out CSE in Rotherham and the inactivity of South Yorkshire Police in dealing with it

      You are demanding answers to lots of questions again. And, this time, it is with demands for action plans and timescales.

      Now, I have a problem.

      Over the last few weeks, I have asked you a small number of questions about UKIP’s published policies. And I have reminded you about the questions and my disappointment that you have not found time to answer them.

      I can understand that you will have been spending lots and lots of time in delivering ‘this great result for UKIP in Rotherham’.

      But, now that is over. So, I would be very grateful if you could answer my questions.

      Clearly, if you can’t do this immediately, it would not be unreasonable for me to ask for your action plan for responding to such questions and the timescale in which you intend to deliver.

      I – and many, many other parents and grand-parents – look forward to your answers to these simple questions about UKIP’s education policies and their implementation in Rotherham.

  4. So, UKIP were 800 votes behind Labour, but they were ahead on the popular vote at the last local elections. Doesn’t look like a big leap forward for UKIP to me.

    Also, I’d have thought they would have been able to get their vote out for this election.

  5. UKIP lost votes for their PCC candidate because they put up an ex-South Yorkshire Police officer as a candidate. How stupid can you get – proposing someone for election who was part of the same police force who had obviously corrupt and morally officers complicit in the sexual grooming scandal.
    You simply couldn’t make up such complete lack of common sense.

Caven, one reason UKIP lost on a very low turn out – UKIP’s best chance of winning – was the nature of your rant – for it is a rant – it displays how many ‘in the middle’ who have grave concerns about CSE perceive UKIP and their tactics as simply offering no solutions – and in many ways they are not wrong. Although you must be disappointed I feel it was ill considered of you to immediately respond in such a manner and it offers nothing. It also is, as we say back home in Sheffield 6, comes across as ‘a bit mardy.’ That is not like you; though it is some of your colleagues.

    Another reason UKIP stalled majorly – and UKIP did considering the low turnout – was Mr Clarkson’s ‘close proximity’ to three of the issues raised by you with Mr Billings.Namely: 1. CSE. South Yorkshire 2 Hillsborough 3,Orgreave. I suggest you also ask Mr Clarkson to give full accounts; he was far too close to them .In addition I also suggest you listen to people on here – many who are far from Labour friendly – when they say UKIP chose the wrong candidate and the wrong negative tactics.

    The PCC election is over. The time for such outburst are over. What is needed now (it always has been) is focus,maturity and forethought. Whoever holds power in Rotherham (or the PCC) are going to have to work with countless people and agencies; that will involve consultation not unbridled hostility and bullying. Indeed any one who wants the situation resolved for the victims, for it is the victims not UKIP or Labour or any political party that matter, is going to have to work in cooperation with Mr Billings and others. That won’t be achieved by rants. I suggest you work in cooperation rather than continue to use CSE as a political football. That will only hamper any solutions or actions needed – and do you truly believe that’s what the victims need?

    We all know that some who are deemed as guilty still have to account for that; but for that to be achieved all have to put party interests aside and start asking questions together, seeking solutions together and not simply shouting at each other. The Advertiser got it right today – the town has to move forward – for the victims together – for justice together – for resolution together – and to find the real culprits and punish them together we must seek.

    Caven, If you don’t want your tanks to remain stuck firmly in the mud you have to offer real solutions – treat the voters like adults and accept alternative views – and dare I suggest – offer viable solutions instead of concentrating on simply negative campaigning; also you have to consider the quality of your colleagues. IE Mr Clarkson; I refer you again to 1. CSE South Yorkshire 2 Hillsborough 3,Orgreave. I also refer you to Ms Collins- she’s a liability for UKIP. And then theirs others who simply insult anyone who questions them in any way via the local press.

    What people want to hear now is UKIP’s clearly explained policies and solutions not simply finger pointing. Any one can do that and it changes nothing. Mr Clarkson and UKIP failed to offer solutions and relied on negative campaigning ; UKIP suffered for that and have missed an open goal. A goal that will not be as open come the General Election.

    Caven your parties odious poster was a mistake too; it used the victims as a political football and that offended many including many victims. It also added to the victims suffering as many have communicated personally. The poster made many perceive UKIP as shallow and opportunist. You should have listened to UKIP head office and ditched it instead of letting the local hot heads sway you.

    Caven – Labour won because they had the best candidate. Mr Billings is a good man – he has a genuine concern and a human heart and soul – I suggest you seek out that goodness and forget his political party and work with him not against him.The victims deserve it.

Pleased and releived with this, though It’s not great news for Labour, UKIP must gutted they didn’t win overall nor come first in the Rotherham area vote, as they are supposed to be taking every seat going on Rotherham council and 2 parliamentary seats as well, come next May. And let’s face it, the Labour Party locally, especially in Rotherham, have not exactly come out fighting on this one.

  10. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

    UKIP failed to grasp the key elements of winning the PCC election, a very poor candidate with a millstone of a career with SYP police round his neck, a highly controversial poster that made potential voters flesh creep and a low boots on the ground, knocking on doors campaign.

    Labours sheep like voters should not be under estimated for their willingness to vote Labour because their great grandfather always voted Labour.

    The UKIP candidate for the coming GE is just as bad, she comes over in a way that will ensure a Labour victory.

    The I am not a politician priest, is under the spot light, having looked at some of his publications etc I fear the worst, politically correct, turn the other check, forgive and forget, not the kind of values that will see the criminals responsible for the rape of children being locked up for a very long time.

    The Chief Constable along with his senior command team can all breathe a sigh of relief this morning; the priest hasn’t the appetite to bring about change, it will be group prayer meetings, taking the holistic approach, involving stakeholders, focus groups and lengthy public consultations.

    Expect complete inertia; back peddling and soft empty words from the priest.

    And all the while known criminals within the Pakistani community will still be driving taxi`s, children will continue to be raped because the establishment has one of their own as PCC.

  11. SKT accusing others of ranting, a bit hypocritical. However when I have analysed the figures, other than Barnsley Tory, UKIP and English democrats exceeded the Labour vote, which means more people would prefer there not to be a Labour controlled PCC. It happened in the Anston ward, UKIP lost by 40 votes and 500 voted Tory, I am sure Tories would prefer UKIP to Labour. Most UKIP supporters are against the nanny state, their reluctance to vote. As for the UKIP candidate being an ex copper, so what, but in this position he could influence the Chief constable, whereas as a policemen he was nothing more than a pawn. The only reason South Yorkshire police and most others are in a mess, is because of left wing interference and political correctness. I had many a chat with my Granddad who was an ex chief inspector of South Yorkshire police in the 60’s, he thought that the criminals were getting the benefit of doubt over the victims and too many counselling caravans rolled up after disasters making victims out of people.

    So if you have hard evidence that Mr Clarkson was involved in all you accuse him of then I suggest you offer it or stop peddling these allegations
    As far as being a good man with a good heart time will tell but to date his actions don’t indicate that to me
    I am not a political ? But a was deputy leader of Sheffield council
    I am independent. I am well entrenched in the morally corrupt Labour Party
    I have already made promises it ism impossible to keep

    So time will tell and he an’t got a lot of that has he but he will be well protected by the now Deputy Leader of Sheffield Council and his nodding mates on the Police and Crime Panel
    What useless, spineless can’t hold any one to account wast of space that panel is another waste of tax payers money

    • So Mr Billings won…But what is he actually now going to do. In his interview shortly after winning he told a reporter that he thinks the PCC post should be abolished and funds should have been given to frontline policing. So why did in stand in the first place and this money given.
      He also said “The job is relevant in that the police need to be held to account and, under the current system, if it’s not done by the PCC nobody does it.
      “I will get the public on board because I think they will understand I am serious about getting a grasp on historic issues like Hillsborough, Orgreave and Rotherham.
      “I think also that I need to meet, and I have been meeting, a lot of people so I want to continue that.”
      How is he going to do this when he clearly isn’t going to get rid of staff or other officials that knew about the above mentioned. Its just the same old same old. We can’t move on with these people still in office The SYP needs a clear out and a new start this is what the public want to see. The public said they had seen no point in voting – or even admitted they were among the 2,000-plus voters who turned out to the ballot box but then deliberately spoiled their ballot paper. So yet again
      What is Mr Billings going to do in the short time he is in office. I hope he is going to look into the council running of things especially the Councillor’s. I and the people I’ve spoken to want to see more arrests, more people forced to leave their posts or resign a fresh SYP force, maybe only then will he gain the trust of the public.

      From 4737votes in 2012 to 14,228 in 2014.
      Ukip Overall result…
      11.54% with 16,773 votes in 2012 to
      31.66% with 46,883 votes in 2014.
      Labour lost votes in Rotherham…
      From 16374votes in 2012 to 15,006 in 2014.
      Labour overall result…
      74,615votes 51.35% in 2012 to
      74,060votes 50.02% in 2014.
      This tells us that the Ukip vote is not a protest vote and that Ukip in Rotherham is on the rise. I think that if Ukip nationally put as much effort into what they have in Rochester then the result could have been increased. I agree Ukip could have done more but a lesson learned. We will now just have to see what happens in the GE 2015.

      I note that you have returned to this site again, but seem to have missed my post (above) reminding you about the need for you to answer questions that I have asked several times.

      When you provide your action plan and timescales for responding – which I am sure you undoubtedly will, having asserted these requirements as necessary for councillors and others to respond to your questions – could you, perhaps, explain the reason for the delay to date. Is it
      (a) I don’t answer simple questions about UKIP policies, because that would confirm that they are a triumph of soundbite over fact and analysis;
      (b) Mr Farage hasn’t told me the answer yet;
      (c) I’m dyslexic – a condition which I use as an excuse to stop me answering any questions about both UKIP’s policies and my own performance as a member of the South Yorkshire Police Authority in the period under consideration?

  15. According to Sheffield star UKIP, Conservative and English democrats beat Labour by 9K of votes across SY, however on wiki it puts Labour beating them by a handful of votes. I suspect that the Conservatives didn’t come 2nd in Sheffield as the star says, and they have put the wrong Conservative vote.

    Using that basis of logic I have analysed the pop charts since they started taking out every entry apart from Lita Roza’s “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?”. The result I have found is that Lita Rozas’ “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?” is now still number one and the only one that has made the charts. Statistical manipulation – don’t yo just love it.

    A little footnote; when UKIP did well in the Council Elections I congratulated them genuinely as is my way. But obvioulsy not some in UKIP’s (I was actually one seat out on my predictions) I think they will do well in the council elections again but not in the General Election My reasons for the latter being Ms Champion is working hard to address the issue of CSE; Ms Collins is a liability and is doing nothing but espouse soundbites and odious accusation after odious accusation.

    Caven, I still say work together – its the victims that count not personalities.

    Lab 0.83 votes for each UKIP vote

    Rotherham – PCC Election November 2014
    Labour 15006 – 40.3%
    UKIP 14228 – 38.2%
    Lab 1.05 votes for each UKIP vote

    Whilst it is too early to tell, we may be over the peak for the UKIP vote in Rotherham.
