It is with sadness we learned of the death of Marlene Guest on the 23rd December, after a long battle with the asbestos cancer, Mesothelioma.
Marlene had been at the forefront of many exposures of Council wrongdoing, from the Anti-Poverty forum to more recently the child sexual exploitation issue.
I didn’t expect Jahangir Akhtar would be a fan of hers, but even I was surprised by his insensitivity, and that of his friends, on social media.

I met Marlene during the by election campaign. While the policies of BNP are vile and misguided I found her to be a pleasant and approachable person who you could at least have a discussion and disagreement with. Mr Akhtar, such a response does you no credit and the comment on what “ding dong” meant in relation to Mrs Thatcher is just naive. Politics is important but it isn’t the most important thing. So my sympathy to Marlene’s family at this time.

As a complaint was made to the police concerning Akhtar making death threats to her, his comments are no surprise. Although neither he or any of his thug friends could ever intimidate her. Whilst she was a small, slightly built woman she was a fighter to the end and did her best to expose wrongdoing in her town. RIP Marlene.

Mahroob Hussain is younger brother of Councillor Mahroof Hussain who works at Sabirs Diner his also known as Froggy.
He works for South Yorkshire Police as specials. Note, apparently not! PCSO perhaps?
Is this how he treats people from the British White community.

Death is the one thing that all people have in common regardless of colour ,sex or religion but I cannot say I am surprised by Mr akhtars comments and would expect the same for anybody that challenges their rule , but know this his day will come aswell and I wonder what they will say about him.R.I.P

Marlene was a special lady who always had the town of Rotherham at heart I met her on a few occasions and found her polite and a thoroughly nice person she knew her stuff about Rotherham council and councillors and she was a thorn in their side
As for Ex Councillor Akhtar I’d keep a very low profile as many people could really go to town where you and your family are concerned so I’d button it if I were you !!!

How come no one from the community has said anything about these comments. I have been told by my Mualim friend that it is degrading to say something like this in Islam when some one has passed away.
May be she knew about these people and that is why she joined the BNP.
It is people like Akhtar and Mahboob that fuel the divide in the community and when time comes to fight the corner they are no where to be seen. Bit like duck and dive Mahroof.

The vile comments from Akhtar tell us just what sort of person he is: Insensitive, Racist, Uncaring and a disgrace to Rotherham and the Asian community. Why has’nt the Labour party disowned him?
Marlene Guest’s politics were a world away from my own views but she had the courage to fight for them.

I have just learned of the Death of Marlene
I have known Marlene for many years and though I never agreed with her in many things and her BNP Roots but that was her belief
But one thing I admired about Marlene was she was straight put her head above the parapit and was a fighter for Rotherham people and for that ishe is a great loss to Rotherham.

Deepest sympathies and condolences to Marlene’s family, friends and colleagues. I did not agree with many of Marlene’s political views and abhor what the BP stand for but, as others have said, also found her to be down to earth and committed to Rotherham. Her heart was always with Rotherham people and she has supported many who were in need over the years.
The comments from Akhtar and his cronies are the lowest imagineable and I fail to understand why this man continues to be allowed to do and say whatever he chooses. Is he ever going to be brought to justice ? More shame on RMBC, SYP and The Establishment.

Marlene Guest knew the holocaust happened , she was far too intelligent not to know this , she joined the BNP , because at the time , it was the party who held her beliefs about this country and what was happening to it . I find Akhtar comments deeply offensive and i hope he is brought to task over them .

My sympathy to Marlenes family firstly, to others who disrespect, shame on you. I knew Marlene firstly on a political level then on a personal one. Marlene had her views and she as the rest of us were entitled to. She was crazy, friendly, helpful, funny and most of all fiercely loyal. I also know one of the individuals named on here and am saddened by the comments. That is a debate to come. Marlene, I hope you find peace and thank you for bieng there for me during my darkest & brighter days, I wouldnt be where I am if it wasn’t for you. xx

I knew Marlene well for many years; we go back to the 70’s. I can’t ever recall agreeing with her on anything at all; even the weather. As for politics we were polls apart. The divide was vast.
But still I give my respects to her family and will her sons when I see them at the shops. I don’t mock the death of anyone. And no one should. Death is the great equalizer – a loved one’s pain transcends politics. We should all recall that.

It is clear from the twitter exchange, Akhtar was not using the interpretation you give.
If I had insulted and had showed no respect for the memory, of one of his recently deceased family members, Akhtar would, in my view quite rightly, have a reason to complain. But he is quite willing to ignore that particular taboo, in the case of someone with whom he had political differences! To think this odious man was once a Labour Party Councillor and Deputy Leader of RMBC, seems quite incredible, to me at least! No wonder this man’s own community turned against him last May?

Akhtar was certainly not using ding dong in the way Leslie Phillips did in the “Carry On” films. He took the words from a song in the film the Wizard of OZ. the words were ding dong the witch is dead! A gross insult to Marlene and her grieving family, which may come back to haunt him. And it’s Akhtar that should get a life preferably back in Pakistan.

And you need to get some brainpower – i think you are talking crap sir/madam. It is obvious to any intelligent person that the phrase “ding dong” echoes the song that became popular at the time of Mrs Thatcher’s death: “Ding dong, the witch is dead”.
So Mr Akhtar’s comment is not only deeply offensive but not even original either (but what can you expect of a party that borrows all it’s policies from Thatcherism? It’s par for the course…)
If, however, you are right, and Mr Akhtar is, in fact aping Leslie Phillips then let’s be even more worried. Mr Phillips used that phrase when he was passing comment about females that he found particularly sexy. So, is Mr Akhtar then making such a comment about Marlene Guest, post mortem? Now THAT is even more creepy and disgusting….

Marlene guest is a credit to Rotherham an her family, she’s one of the only candidate to (try) to bring child abuse And council corruption to to public eye and for all her efforts threats and racist abuse. Akhtar’s comments are a insult to Marlene family and friends. Garry
