    • it is mentioned by Jane, … and nothing about the EU and it’s ÂŁ50m a day costs, just an attack on the foreign aid budget.

      • “An attack on the foreign aid budget”.

I’m not sure its an attack, I would suggest its a more sensible approach to handing out our county’s money to other nations that don’t necessarily need it and quite right too, we need the money at home. It seems to be the only budget that increases regardless of whatever party is in power (e.g. up 28% in 2013/14 to meet the target of 0.7% of GDP).

UKIP’s policy states “UKIP will target foreign aid at healthcare initiatives, inoculations against preventable diseases and clean water programmes with a much-reduced aid budget administered by the Foreign Office.” Sounds sensible to me.

Why did we give ÂŁ196m to India who has a space programme and spends billions on nuclear weapons? Or ÂŁ171m to Pakistan who also have a nuclear weapons programme?
Or ÂŁ56m to Somalia, hotbed of extremism and corruption? Just what are we getting in return for this money?

Corruption and abuse of aid is well known and I personally would prefer a policy of giving money when its necessary towards clean water programmes and health initiatives where there is a genuine need than into buying Mercedes for the families of third world country leaders.

      • Hi TB, I was simply commenting on the content of the leaflet. I am aware of UKIP’s more detailed policy on the foreign aid budget, just as I am aware of their policy toward EU membership, and yet was surprised that there is not a single mention of it in this leaflet when it was opposition to the EU that UKIP was founded on.

I don’t consider this the place to discuss the rights and wrongs of foreign aid, tho’ I am happy to discuss it at a later time. I’ll just add that whilst I have never been directly funded by UK gov – I have been by the UN and the World Bank – both of whom receive some of the funding from the UK gov … and your idea of the FO taking over the budget, well, clearly you don’t have my experience of the FO – they would just use it to upgrade their Embassy wine cellars – you just can’t imagine how they live when in LDCs.

    • If CSE was mentioned what do you think the LABOUR councillors would say it is on the mind of all UKIP people the victims have received nothing from this council whom the casey report outed as NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE

      • Hi fiferalfa – that’s not the point. Hopefully we all (ie electors of Rotherham) know that by now and won’t vote Labour on May 7th. But I am interested in what the prospective UKIP councillor for Wingfield is going to do about cse. Not a lot by the looks of it…

  1. Perhaps they don’t need to bring up the issue about CSE too much, as it will undoubtedly get plenty of coverage in the coming months. Thereby defusing one of Labours attacks about them using It for political gain.

  2. I haven’t voted in a general election since 1997. I couldn’t care less about politics. But I am sick of the attacks on Jane Collins. I have known Jane since she was 6 year old when she used to come and walk my granddad’s greyhounds. She is a salt-of-the-earth lass who has done well for herself. Nothing wrong with that.

      • People right across the Borough are waking up to the fact that their own apathy is a factor in Rotherham’s problems.
The disengaged are no longer so disengaged. They are hopping mad at Labour’s failures and they will be voting come May, with some surprising results!

But Terry – Barnsley the Politically-Disengaged , isn’t in the Borough from what I can tell, is he?

      • I have not voted since 1997. I do not trust party politics any more. I found this page because a friend told me Jane Collins is running in Rotherham. I put Jane Collins – Rotherham into google. This came up. I cannot believe that anyone would speak bad of Jane. Anyone who knows Jane in any way is a good lass. I am not going to vote in this election. If I lived in Rotherham I would vote for Jane. Alas I live in Barnsley and have to put up with leaflets from Dugher every other week!!!!

      • Politically-Disengaged you say:”I have not voted since 1997″.
then presumably you don’t live in the Barnsley Central Constituency when Jane stood in the 2011 bi election.
or the Yorkshire and Humber constituency – where she stood for the 2014 European Elections (and was elected).
So many missed opportunities ! 🙂

Obviously if you are getting Dugher’s leaflets, you must live in Barnsley East, but you could still have campaigned for her in 2011, and I hope you did.

      • Hello Regular Reader. I don’t follow. Of course I was living in Barnsley in 2011. I did not know about a by-election because I thought Dugher has been in since before then. If Jane stood in it, I did not know anything about that. I think Barnsley is very solid Labour anyway so I doubt she would have got in. I think in Rotherham she could. As for Euro elections, I do not vote in them either and I never have voted in them. I am making an observation that Jane C is not the toff that you are making her out to be. She is just an ordinary lass thats done alright. Terry

  3. Terry- my friend Beryl (from Hoyland in Barnsley) used to walk my Granddad’s dogs. I’ve known my friend Beryl since I was 3. Can’t see what that has to do with her political nouse however. The same applies to Ms Collins. Although unlike Ms Collins my friend Beryl does have an idea what she’stalking about. .

By the way I’m still waiting for an answer from UKIP however on what does the phrase ‘NHS free at the point of delivery’ means. Mr Cameron said that in the last Election but what he failed to say was ‘through more privatization of course.’ Me thinks UKIP may be hiding behind the same charade. Things are never as clear as it seems.
