  1. … and it was not just Darren the D
    As the Times wrote yesterday
More than 200 MPs, many of whom had been persuaded that the Brethren were an innocuous Christian church, wrote to the regulator on its behalf and several tabled supportive motions, organised debates and hosted parliamentary events. Peter Bone, the MP for Wellingborough who is one of the Brethren’s strongest supporters, assured the sect: “Your wish is my command.”
Five MPs wrote to Alison McKenna, the principal judge of the charity tribunal, to influence her decision in the Brethren’s favour. A spokesman for Ms McKenna said that she had “made it clear that it was not appropriate to write to a judge during the hearing”.
Several MPs who supported the Brethren also received significant help from Brethren volunteers in the run-up to the 2010 election and in by-elections. Mr Bone, Robert Halfon, and Michael Ellis, who all made speeches, tabled questions or hosted debates on the Brethren’s behalf, received such help.

… and today the Times adds:
    Fiona Bruce, Conservative
Fiona Bruce, 67, is MP for Congleton having assumed office in 2010 with a 13.9 percent majority.
Ms Bruce, who is an evangelical Christian, has denied accusations that she had won the seat as a result of an orchestrated campaign by religious groups sympathetic to her evangelical Christian beliefs.
As a pro-life campaigner Ms Bruce chairs the All-Party Parliamentary pro-life Group, which is funded by the Right to Life Charitable Trust and Christian Action Research and Education (CARE). CARE receive more than £2,000,000 in donations a year that they spend on pushing a fundamentalist Christian agenda, which includes disseminating incorrect information at bogus “abortion clinics”.
Before entering politics, Ms Bruce, who was born in Wick in the Scottish Highlands, trained as a solicitor.
Ms Bruce received leafleting and research help from the Brethren and was able to organise a very well-attended Westminster Hall debate in support of their cause during the struggle with the Charity Commission.
