Rotherham councillors and staff to undergo training

Councillors and council staff in Rotherham will undergo training and political mentorship as part of a raft of measures to improve performance.

The proposals were revealed in a draft improvement plan drawn up in response to Louise Casey’s report, which branded the authority “not fit for purpose”.

Other suggestions include using mystery shoppers to test services.

The council accepted previous training had been “a bit stale” with little buy-in from councillors.

The Casey report was commissioned after an earlier inquiry by Professor Alexis Jay revealed that 1,400 children in the Rotherham area were abused by gangs of men, mainly of Pakistani origin, from 1997 to 2013.

  1. I just hope nobody books a ‘training course’ with a certain ex-councillor’s “gangs and grooming” company-which was never declared in the Register of Members Interests.
    Wheels within wheels,revolving doors etc.etc.


  2. Fascinating and undoubtedly long overdue, but it does raise two questions: How much will it cost and why are we paying senior Council Officers £100K plus p.a. if they still require training?


    • It’s not ‘more’ training people need it’s Character. A strong sense of right and wrong. My own observations of the rmbc webcast indicates those essential qualities are half inch thick with platitudes miles wide. Simon Copley, Rotherham’s local man with heart and balls has hit the nail on the head.
      In my view ,it’s too late for councils and politicians…. they are part of the problem. The best one can hope for now is individuals who couldn’t care less for PC s… , but have passion , backbone, heart, balls and a very thick skin. They can’t individually change or redeem a country but they can make their street a better and safer an no refuge for slime !!!!!!

      The Casey report highlighted RMBC’s fixation with Political Correctness, a pernicious and dangerous culture that rewards people who spend their working lives dismissing accusations about CSE as ‘frivolous’ and ‘racist’ in order to justify ignoring it.
      Left wing ideology and tick box management defines the culture at RMBC. Senior Officers have forgotten who they are supposed to serve and who pays their wages-and pensions.
      They couldn’t run a whelk stall let alone a Borough council………..
      Oh I forgot, they are not running it are they?
      ‘Nuff said.
