    • Half of drivers can’t speak English I don’t think some of them can spell Rotherham so how do they pass the knowledge test.?????????

  1. The taxi drivers association must have issued a statement, surely? Readers would welcome sight of it, I am sure. Don’t they want support?

  2. Talk about actually making the rope that they will be hanged with. Following the fact that one of their numbers has just been bailed for the clear allegations of his involvement in CSE and who was responsible for previous Taxi strikes-and the claim is that they are annoyed at the changes that are being required to clean up their act.

These types of irrate and irresponsible actions and not showing a bit of humbliness -as it is their trade that most of the CSE has taken place. FFs grow up and start becoming responsible and taking these changes on the chin for the greater good-as it is the Town’s good folk that have been totally humilated by the actions of some in your community-and start -stop just seeing it in money terms -Grow up for goodness sake or the town will retaliate and boycortt ypour taxies altogether. You do not even realsie that so far there has not been ariot against you -for the shame that members of your trade have brought to this town-and possibly other towns to boot!

  3. This strike deserves support, despite what news would have us think. Many taxi drivers are self-employed, they rent the name and machine that tolls from a company and pay a set amount irrespective of what hours they work or what they earn, they are responsible for the quality, condition and tax etc. on their vehicle. Due to widespread news coverage, they are the focus of a crackdown that if affecting innocent people trying to earn a living as well as a minority who have abused their positions. This is only the same as when anyone in any area of employ abuses the rules and others who are left behind suffer the consequences. This is emphasised by the fact that in this case, the abuse is severe and has reached (rishtly so) national coverage.

But the people left behind are still people, most of them also struggling to earn a living. They now find that they are stuggling to do so due to imposed restrictions, most of which are knee-jerk responses that are ineffective (ie. vehicle quality – sorry, this has no bearing on the quality of the morality of your taxi driver). It would be simple to tar everyone with the same brush, but, as a white female, in my late 20s, who worked in bars for my teen and early 20 years (who was always safely transported and respected by many a driver), I can say that I met many lovely, hard working people, trying to earn a living for themselves and their families, just like everyone else I know.

Good luck to you guys, I hope your strike goes well 🙂 xxx

    • You wouldn’t be having these additional controls place upon your trade, if it wasn6 for your obvious disregard for your customers and their children. I’m glad your going on strike, you only highlight your guilt and. contempt for the poeple you are surpposed to serve. Amongst your rank are serious child abusers and yet not one of your law abiding citizens have done anything. About getting rid of them.

By your actions you have brought your trade into disrepute, shame your culture and sully the good name of Rotherham around the World.

DO EVERYONE A FAVOUR, CRAWL BACK UNDER THAT SINKHOLE, YOU AND YOUR LIKE ORIGANATED FROM, AND ALLOW THIS TOWN TO HEAL AND BREATH AGAIN.

  4. Is it led by Saj Bostan? That they elected him as a leader says little for their democracy.

Bit of a duff choice of time. Will pee off police trying to clear town of revellers, may cost night time economy a few quid…but in the main more likely to alienate the majority who are keen to see tha taxi trade cleansed and turned into a decent quality service. As against the current scene of far too many rough vehicles with shot suspension and groaning brakes.

The numbers of taxis and drivers here is ludicrously high. There are 1,200 drivers registered in Rotherham, 80 operators and 800 vehicles.

They only survive on low incomes, poorly maintained vehicles and tax evasion. Of course some turn to criminality.

The Mirpuri leaders should be calling for a cull of numbers and higher standards. Maybe fewer making a living, but they’d have decent jobs with decent pay, and we’d have a decent service.

Unfortunately the Mirpuri leadership are fat cats, who just want the vote, so daren’t show leadership. In the end poor jobs and poor money for their power castes doesn’t bother them.

They should be fighting for better education, greater job opportunities for the Mirpuri. Maybe starting some higher quality businesses, rather than skulking in the black economy of landlordism and dodgy taxi firms.

  5. They drive taxis for the perks , no one can prove how much they earn and so results in being able to claim tax credits , for some its a big fiddle and that is why we rarely see pakistani bus drivers .

    • Inland revenue should also turn up
I know one taxi driver who said he earns more than a commissioner by renting 21 houses out pays no tax for taxi and gets family tax credits. What a laugh this is.

  6. Im told Sajid Bostan wasnt elected to his position on the Rotherham Private Hire Drivers Association but it was a self appointment, in the same way Mobeen Hussain was for BMY. The leadership is full of Akhtars cronies who have little interest in speaking up for the law abiding majority. Id say accept the proposed licensing changes with good grace or elect representatives who will engage with the council to weed out the undesirables. Btw there is a Private Hire Association which is run by the taxi base owners but they only have self interest in mind and historically has been used to rubber stamp changes which dont affect them.

Back in the 90s the government issued instructions to local authorities to relax restrictions on the granting of private hire licences. They saw it as a low-profile way to soak-up large numbers of, virtually unemployable, Pakistani men.

£10.00 entrance fee at the door per person.
      Cash in hand?
I wonder where all that money will going.
It’s been arranged by Rotherham PEDO hire drivers association and hackney carriages.

Some one said he has a partnership with the guy that was from welgate who was banged up for having a fire arm. I didn’t catch the name. He associates with Sabir, Moofy, Akhtars and the Bostan brothers.
Is he some big guy in the meetings that these hire drivers have that Sajid Bostan is Chair?

    Only 100 drivers turned up.
    No unity in the drivers.
Drivers want both of these association to resign with immediate effect as majority of the self elected reps are being investigated for CSE.

  12. Council demanding;
Cctv with voice recording ( linked with ignition).
    5 years old cars maximum
    8 hours work max.

    Drivers;
Agree with cctv but asking to link it with meter, so cctv only records when customer is in taxi, which is fair. Everyone has right to private life and not monitored when with their own family.
Rotherham fare starts at £2 and 1 mile is only £3. Can’t expect drivers to put 5 years old cars only for that fare!!
8 hours work; drivers are self employed and have to pay insurance and meter rent regardless of working hours so why put limit on hours.

    • Don’t forget property licensing if you own properties if they are not up to standard you will waste 6 hours a week their headache headache headache

      Like

    • The drivers don’t want cctv in their cabs and especially not linked with the meter as it will show exactly how many fairs they have, dont forget the the majority of rotherham taxi drivers are asian and they like to do their committees. To the people who don’t know what that is well its how they save money and avoid the tax man. A group of people commit to save £100 a week for a year they give the money to one person who saves it all and at different times throughout the year eveyone gets their savings back. Thats how they are able to buy their properties from the council etc. Its a massive tax avasion as they dont declare all their earnings. At the end of the week they pay for the rent on the meter, take out their commitee money and fuel and still only declare about that they are earining at max £200 a week. Some even put 2 to 3 committees in. So just imagine how much they can earn? Oh thats how they get there benefits too by declaring they only earn the minimum. If they only earned the minimum how would they afford the properties the own? Sajid bostan has 2 properties only one with a mortgage. The rest of the properties that are in his name belong to his father and brothers. Shans house was put into sajids name so shans wife couldnt claim half of it, his dads was put into his so his dad could claim benefits and earn an income with out the tax man fining out. The list is endless.

    • Do not treat the Rotherham people as though they stupid. The controls need to be as tight as possible because you lot are a set of fiddling scum who will take every opportunity to bend the rules so you can fiddle more money off the state. None of you declare your correct earnings, you deal only in cash for your rented properties so you can claim every benefit know to man. I hope this is only the start, next mission is to get into the scum landlords.

  13. It will be entertaining to see Look North’s spin on this. The communities correspondent is usually wheeled out to put a nice shiny gloss on the horrors of mass child rape and prostitution. How does one interpret taxi drivers refusing cctv as a good thing and simply not wanting this imposition to interfere with ‘business’. That is of course if it is reported at all, or most likely extremely briefly with the caveat that such measures will play into the hands of the far right.

      • There sickening crimes were beyond the pale, won’t go into details, but whatever they get it wont be enough. However there are numerous differences and similarities about the abuse in Manchester and Rotherham.

It involves manipulating, schemeing, devious groups of people, with no morals what so ever. Differences being they weren’t related, an entire community was aware of this and did nothing. The council, Social services and the Police knew and never stop it. In fact assisted the prelonging of the victims and their families sufferings. And the Rotherham abuse was cultural, it involve little white girls, being abused by Pakistani men, as they saw these children as lower that scum and therefore could be used for there sickening pleasure.

There are too many defenders of Evil in Rotherham and not enough people who will admit to the awful truth.

      • Anonymous @ 3.46.No the “whole” community was not aware of it which means you must be aware of what was happening in Manchester and in parliament! Is it cultural for white males to groom little kids and watch child porn? mps and people in power to abuse and even kill kids?does the whole white community know about it?No of course it isnt and rest dont know.dont think they saw them lower than scum. it was just unfortunate that they were the easiest targets for them being young and vunrable.you will be upset to know there were asian victims too.I certainly am not defending the rotherham cases but comments like yours are what are irritating and full of hypocrisy and your reply proves exactly my point.
Any abuse as I said is wrong but one type is not better than the other and deal with them all equally.

        • They should be dealt with equally, but the story of Rotherham is that here, they didn’t!
A culture of ‘impunity’ developed, that then, ensured a lengthy cover-up.
The total of 300 potential perpetrators, nearly all Kashmiri, is an enormous proportion of a relatively small population?

          Like

      • Enourmous proportion of mps are accused of being peodos. janners victims didnt get equality either nor the other mps victims.bring all to justice lets see how many kashmiris are charged and convicted and see how many different victims there are 1400 they said.Any1 guilty of an offence or concealment needs to be brought to justice.

  14. No one has actually stated the reason as to why the taxi drivers are refusing to have the CCTV in their cars. All drivers agree with with the idea however they refuse to have them on at all times even when their car is being used for private use. The camera should not be out on as soon as the the car ignition starts. They should only be turning them on as soon as a fair is given. They also have to pay rent for the CCTV’s per day which overall could cost them a lot of money which is what they disagree with. Many chargers would have to be paid by the drivers for damage to CCTVs or faults which would result in them having to replace them. But as usual these point are overseen and everyone jumps to conclusions without knowing the actual facts.
