Consultation to start on ‘neglect’ of authority figures who ignored Rotherham abuse

A consultation asking the public about punishments for those who ignored child abuse in Rotherham is set to begin later this year.

Councillors and police in Rotherham who ignored or failed to report child abuse could be dismissed or disqualified if Parliament does decide to extend ‘wilful neglect’ to cover children’s social care, depending on the outcome of a consultation, a new Government report has said.

  1. Let’s hope this covers the councillors still in denial and the members of scrutinies panel who did not scrutinise much at all
There are still many things being hidden and need to be disclosed

  2. I don’t believe that the government can go on ignoring the part that people like Wright and his senior adviser Jane Havenhand played in keeping us all in the dark about what they knew about CSE in Rotherham. Wright was cabinet member for children and young people’s services and Havenhand was his senior adviser through the period of 2005-10, Havenhand attended the 2005 seminar. It is a travesty that these two have been allowed to walk away without any repercussions, Havenhand made a statement to me when I questioned her about her role in all this it was to the effect; “I have searched my conscience and have nothing to feel ashamed of.” I beg to differ, and it is time for all these people to be brought in front of a court to answer for their neglect.
