A bit of a rabble: Watson writes off Momentum
Labour’s deputy leader yesterday dismissed Momentum, the grassroots network of Corbynistas, as a “bit of a rabble” in a move that highlighted deepening conflict in the party.
Tom Watson spoke out at the end of a week in which allegations were made that the group was linked to individuals who abused and threatened Labour MPs who voted for airstrikes on Syria.
He sought to downplay the influence of Momentum, which was set up to bolster Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.
“They look like a bit of a rabble to me, but I don’t think they are a problem for the Labour party. I think they are a bit of an irrelevance,” Mr Watson told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
