Woman ‘kept slave girls for sex grooming gang’
A child who was plied with alcohol until she passed out in the home of an older woman awoke to find she was being sexually attacked by one of a number of Asian men who abused girls in Rotherham, a court was told yesterday.
Jurors listened as the alleged victim, now aged in her 40s, described a life of virtual slavery in the home of Karen MacGregor, who is accused of befriending vulnerable girls then making them available to men for sex.
In a police interview played to the court, she said that as a child she had initially thought of Ms MacGregor, 58, as “a second mother” but “it turned out I was totally wrong”.
Ms McGregor, who denies conspiracy to rape, is one of seven defendants who deny offences against young girls in the South Yorkshire town between the late 1980s and 2003. Men are said to have regularly groomed and abused children before “passing them on” to their friends and relatives.
