Rotherham Greens Launch their ‘Manifesto for a Brighter Rotherham’
Rotherham Green Party will be standing candidates in 2/3rds of Rotherham’s 21 Council Wards on Thursday 5 May 2016 giving more people than ever before the chance to vote Green – many for the first time.
Rotherham needs a challenge to the ‘one Party state’ which has been in charge in Rotherham for over 30 years. This is a concern Green Party leader Natalie Bennett voiced in her interview when she visited Rotherham last month and we have worked hard to rise to the challenge.
Each voter has 3 votes in these all out elections so we are hoping to persuade sufficient voters to give us at least one of those votes that we can achieve representation on the council for the first time in this election.
We recognise that much of the work of Local Councillors is at the grass roots making sure local people’s day to day interests are being cared for and that is always a Green Councillor’s first priority.
The manifesto is a list of wider aims we think Rotherham and the council should be aiming for and we will be pushing for when elected.
It comes in 2 forms. One is the headlines as shown in the attached graphic which are the areas we have focussed in on. The second is a more detailed breakdown as to our priorities in those areas.

About the Green Party
Imagine a political system that puts the public first. Imagine an economy that gives everyone their fair share.
Imagine a society capable of supporting everyone’s needs. Imagine a planet protected from the threat of climate change now and for the generations to come. That’s the world we want to create and we believe we have the means to do it.
By ensuring that everyone has access to a secure job that pays at least the Living Wage we will build an economy that works for the common good, not just the privileged few.
By restoring public services to public hands we will ensure they are run in the interests of the people that use them.
By investing in renewable energy and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, we will build a stable and sustainable society that protects our planet from climate change.
By building more social rented homes and bringing abandoned buildings back into use we will ensure that everyone has a secure and affordable place to live.
