Tom Watson ‘won’t contest Labour leadership’

Labour deputy leader Tom Watson says he is trying to persuade Jeremy Corbyn to quit but won’t be challenging him.

He told the BBC that Jeremy Corbyn’s position had become untenable but was refusing to discuss his future, leaving the party “in an impasse”.

Labour MPs have passed a vote of no confidence in Mr Corbyn.

But he has refused to “betray” party members who backed him by resigning and his backers say a formal leadership contest would be needed to depose him.

Corbyn putting Labour ‘in peril’ by refusing to quit – Watson

Jeremy Corbyn is refusing to stand down despite his position being untenable, his deputy Tom Watson has told the BBC.

Mr Watson said the Labour leader had rebuffed his calls to resign, leaving the party “in an impasse” which risked turning into an “existential crisis”.

But he said he would not be standing against the Labour leader.

Mr Corbyn has refused to “betray” party members who backed him by resigning and his backers say a formal leadership contest would be needed to depose him.

Mr Watson had been one of two frontrunners – along with Angela Eagle – tipped to contest the position.

    The only way is not to give in to intimidation, bullying and treachery.

    On the 30th anniversary of miners strike…the MPs have a simple choice.
    Resign or go and form a red tory breakaway scab party

Normally the rats, skulk in the shadows and feast on the trash others throw away , however the modern Labour Party MP , in self preservation mode of themselves, have decided to venture out in the open for all to see. Let’s have an party election, Corbyn wins again and then deselect all the traitors. They have two options, join the Tories or set up another SDP.
