  1. Barry Sheerman MP says he tried 8 years ago to get West Yorkshire Police and the local authorities to do something about the abuse that was going on.
So in 2008 the Chief Constable of WYP was by my reckoning Sir Norman Bettison and his Deputy from 2008 – 2012 was none other than calamity Crompton. In view of Bettison having been a SYP officer at the time of Hillsborough and having to give evidence at the Hillsborough Inquiry his close working relationship with Crompton makes the Crompton’s appointment all the more mind boggling. Who on earth was responsible for this appointment?
Did they at no time question if there might be a tinsy- winsy risk of conflict of interest? A risk that became a reality with the phone calls between Bettison and Crompton in 2012 pretty much as soon as Crompton had been appointed.

The Officer in charge of tackling CSE in SYP is ACC Ingrid Lee who is also from WYP and according to her career blurb

” In 2010 Ingrid was promoted to the West Yorkshire, Head of Crime where she has lead a number of complex investigations including counter corruption, serious and organised crime and the force response to Child Sexual exploitation and serious sexual offences.”

ACC Lee also led Operation Newgreen. This was the report in which WYP didn’t see anything odd in appointing themselves to investigate themselves over their failures connected to serial rapist and child abuser, Jimmy Savile. The investigation led by ACC Lee has been described as shambolic. Thirteen key failings were identified, and as a result of evidence pulled together by the Telegraph‘s Claire Duffin, ACC Lee took the highly unusual step of referring herself for outside force investigation.

Now it would seem from what Barry Sheerman MP has said that senior police officers responsible for tackling CSE in Rotherham had regrettable form when it came to dealing with CSE.
