Councillor denies sex charge

A COUNCILLOR has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a fellow female councillor.

Labour member Cllr Andrew Roddison (41) appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to enter a plea to the sexual assault charge.

The Advertiser exclusively revealed Roddison had been charged by police over the alleged sex attack, which is understood to have taken place in May at a high-profile council event.

The complainant cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Roddison is due to stand trial at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on November 22.

  1. I think it will be inappropriate for anyone to post comments on this case.

    Prejudicial publicity may give rise to a breach of the right to a fair trial under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights (“ECHR”). It may also constitute grounds for a stay of proceedings as an abuse of process.

    It is up to Rik whether or not to publish any comments.


  2. There are UK Laws too that must be observed, including the current ban on the identification of the victim. It would have to be a quite an inventive comment before I would post any specific points here, Rik.
