A man accused of sexually abusing three girls in Rotherham has said he would “never do such a thing”.
Ishtiaq Khaliq, 33, is on trial at Sheffield Crown Court charged with rape and three counts of indecent assault.
However, he told jurors he had not known nor been in a relationship with any of his accusers.
He is one of eight men on trial in connection with the sexual abuse of three girls between 1999 and 2003. All eight deny any wrongdoing.
Child sex abuse trial: Defendant “never friends” with other alleged abusers
A MAN who was allegedly part of a grooming gang has told a jury he has never been friends with his co-defendants.
Ishtiaq Khaliq gave evidence today at Sheffield Crown Court where he is one of eight men on trial for child sex abuse offences.
The 33-year-old is accused of sexually abusing three girls aged under 16.
Khaliq denies the offences and claims he does not know the complainants and that personal information they know about him they must have been obtained from Facebook or other people.
Child sex abuse trial: Accused “lied about not knowing other defendants”
A MAN accused of sexually assaulting three young girls lied about not knowing his co-defendants, a jury was told today.
Ishtiaq Khaliq told Sheffield Crown Court this morning that he did not associate with seven other defendants on trial for assaulting girls aged under 16 in Rotherham more than a decade ago.
But prosecutor Miss Michelle Colborne said this afternoon that Khaliq had a violent past and was lying about not knowing the other men.
ROTHERHAM TRIAL: Defendant sent Facebook messages to complainant
A defendant in the Rotherham child abuse case said he did not know any of the girls who made complaints against him – despite messaging them on Facebook.
Ishtiaq Khaliq, aged 33, told Sheffield Crown Court yesterday that he ‘had no business’ with the three women who have made allegations of a sexual nature against him.
But the court heard he had sent messages to at least two of the complainants on Facebook.
Khaliq sent a ‘thumbs-up’ emoji to one complainant and had a series of messages with another.
One of the messages, from a complainant to Khaliq, said: “I’m gonna block you again.”
Second Rotherham Trial at Sheffield Crown Court:
Please note, this is an ongoing trial and it is very difficult therefore for readers to make a comment that could be published without falling foul of legal constraints designed to ensure a fair trial.
For those who make comments I cannot approve at the moment, should keep those ideas until the verdicts are out, Rik.
