Leeds names four councillors summonsed on tax arrears after U-turn

A Council has backed down from a legal bid to keep the identity of councillors sent a court summons over unpaid council tax secret and issued a public apology.

Leeds City Council has now disclosed Arif Hussain, Pauleen and Ron Grahame and Kim Groves, who all represent Labour, received a summons during the last two financial years.

Tom Richmond: Leeds Council’s cover-up over tax affair corrodes trust in politics

IF Communities Secretary Sajid Javid gets his way, every public office-holder may have to swear an oath of allegiance to British values.

He believes civic and political leaders have a duty to lead by example when it comes to upholding principles of tolerance, democracy and respect.

  1. Council Officers are not supposed to be defending the failings of Members of the council. The Councillors should be making statements themselves. Are the Council going to act on behalf of every other person in Leeds and put out statements on their behalf, of why they also have made a mistake.
Smacks of the same problems in Rotherham where the employees only think they are employed to act on Labours behalf.
