Labour reels as ‘frustrated’ Tristram Hunt quits politics to run a museum

One of Labour’s most prominent moderates, Tristram Hunt, has announced he is standing down from Parliament to become director of the Victoria & Albert museum in London.

The former shadow education secretary’s departure will trigger a potentially awkward by-election for Labour in Stoke-on-Trent Central, with immediate speculation that Ukip leader Paul Nuttall may stand in a seat which voted overwhelmingly for Brexit in last year’s referendum.

Tristram Hunt was a complete disaster as Shadow Education Secretary. Michael Gove ran rings round him.
Hunt is not left wing enough for today’s Labour party and he has criticised Corbyn, plus he is the son of Baron Hunt of Chesterton. He knows he has no future in politics and has decided to earn a lot more money putting his degree and professional qualifications (FRHistS) to better use.
I cannot and do not blame him.

What you got against Baron Hunt? He’s an OK guy – and his great uncle was a near genius. (Both FRS – not members of a tin-pot outfit like the RHistS ) 🙂
