Judge in MEP’s Rotherham child abuse libel case reserves costs verdict

A LIBEL hearing to decide the damages to be paid by an MEP over claims following the Rotherham abuse scandal was adjourned without a resolution.

Jane Collins, who stood for election as Rotherham MP in 2015, is facing a damages bill for the “extremely grave” allegations she made about Labour MPs John Healey, Sarah Champion, and Sir Kevin Barron, when she claimed the three knew about child exploitation in the town and did not intervene.

The trio launched defamation proceedings against her, which she initially offered to settle but later tried unsuccessfully to withdraw her offer.

Judge adjourns Rotherham sex abuse slander case to assess damages to be paid to Labour MPs

A judge has adjourned a case to decide the amount of damages to be paid to Rotherham’s three Labour MPs by a Ukip MEP over remarks she made about the town’s child abuse scandal.

Mr Justice Warby adjourned the long-running litigation at London’s High Court once more to a later date when he will rule on the compensation due to Sir Kevin Barron, MP for Rother Valley, John Healey, who represents Wentworth and Dearne, and Sarah Champion, MP for Rotherham.

The three South Yorkshire MPs sued Jane Collins, who represents Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, for libel over a speech she gave at Ukip’s conference in September 2014 – a month after a report found about 1,400 children in the area had been abused between 1997 and 2013.

UKIP MEP to find out costs for libelling Rotherham’s MPs

ANTI-EUROPE MEP Jane Collins is due to find out how much she must pay in damages after libelling Rotherham’s three MPs.

Ms Collins claimed that John Healey, Kevin Barron and Sarah Champion knew about child grooming gangs but deliberately ignored them out of political correctness.

She asked the European Parliament for immunity when the MPs launched High Court legal action against her.

But Parliament’s Committee on Legal Affairs approved a report which found no ground for defending Ms Collins immunity.

I understand that the case has already been lodged in Luxembourg but the ‘Rotherham Three’s’ legal team has refused to acknowledge it and are racing back to court today.

‘Pains in my tummy’ Healey, ‘I know nowt’ Barron and ‘Thumper’ Champion think they will be vindicated…….and no doubt will be counting wads of money in their sleep.

Notice Mosley ‘my other half is Thumper’s PA’ has put this story on a link before the court’s outcome. We know the colours of The Advertiser, its dismissal of scoops that matter and the regular use of selective reporting to help its Labour buddies.

There’s no wonder it is struggling to survive according to the recent Administration scare.

Yes, the BBC version above is the obviously accurate one.
      ” lodged in Luxembourg” ???
The Lux offices of the General Secretariat of the European Parliament ?
I could never work out what they actually did, but had always assumed it was purely administative.
