Commissioner changeover as more powers are returned to Rotherham Council

COUNCIL commissioner Mary Ney — who led Rotherham’s taxi reforms — will step into the lead role when Sir Derek Myers quits.

The changeover comes as more powers are returned to Rotherham Borough Council from the Government.

Adult social care, town centre management and street cleaning are among the responsibilities back under councillors’ control.

    Does this mean that the Common Purpose takeover of Rotherham Council is now complete?

    I always wondered why Sir Derek left early, the job was not completed. Is there something we do not know ?.
    When the different services are handed over, is anyone monitoring the performance of Councillors to ensure they are performing well on their own ?.

    The compulsive ringing of Sir Derek’s hands under the frequent scrutiny of Peter Thirlwall at council meetings may offer some explanation. Even 800 pounds a day may be too small a remuneration for the monthly tenacity of ex counselor come chief prosecutor Mr Thirlwall. Having said that… somebody has to do it …..
