HESSLE TOWN councillor Emma Hardy has been selected to be Labour’s candidate in Hull West and Hessle following Alan Johnson’s decision not to run.
Ms Hardy, a member of Labour’s national policy forum, was chosen ahead of David Prescott, the son of former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott, who was widely expected to be selected.
She said: “It is a huge honour to be selected as Labour’s candidate for my home seat – the place I love so much and care so deeply about.

News Update: News has come in indicating Tom Watson’s girlfriend, Steph Peacock, has been chosen for Barnsley East!

Local councillor Emma Hardy has been selected to contest the Hull West and Hessle seat, and Steph Peacock, a regional officer for the GMB, has been chosen to contest the Barnsley East seat.
The Barnsley seat was vacated when former shadow cabinet minister Michael Dugher’s decision to leave parliament, and former home secretary Alan Johnson was the incumbent in Hull.

I read in one of the Tory papers that Watson’s W Brom seat might be at risk because of UKIP voters returning to the Tory fold – probably wishful thinking but I can’t imagine anything more politically satisfying than that despicable lump of lard getting thrown out by the voters
