Michael Dugher to become UK Music boss after stepping down as MP

Labour MP Michael Dugher has been appointed as the new chief executive of UK Music.

The former shadow culture secretary, who is standing down at the General Election in June, said he was “thrilled” by the appointment.

Mr Dugher, a prominent critic of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, will take up the position with the music industry trade body in mid May.

The Barnsley East MP – a keen music fan – was sacked from the shadow cabinet by Mr Corbyn in January 2016 after being accused of “serial disloyalty” to the leader.
