“On 6 February the Royal Courts of Justice awarded damages of £54K each to Sir Kevin Barron MP, John Healey MP and Sarah Champion MP as a result of comments made by Jane Collins MEP regarding the sexual exploitation of 1,400 children in Rotherham.
The Courts also ordered Ms Collins to make an additional interim payment of £120K to the MPs to cover their legal costs.
Today in Hull the 3 Labour MPs attempted to exact payment of these significant amounts from Ms Collins. The Hull Court ordered that the MPs could not present a petition for bankruptcy against Ms Collins until 8 June. The Hull Court denied the MPs legal costs.
In attempting to obtain the monies awarded to them Sir Kevin Barron MP, John Healey MP and Sarah Champion MP have also applied to the Royal Courts of Justice for a hearing at which Ms Collins will be questioned regarding her finances.”
UKIP MEP Jane Collins ‘facing bankruptcy’ over damages
A UKIP MEP could face bankruptcy after she failed to pay damages to three MPs over remarks she made about the Rotherham child abuse scandal.
Jane Collins was told to pay £358,000 in damages and costs in February after being sued for libel and slander.
But, she appeared in court in Hull earlier on Monday after failing to pay.
A spokeswoman for Ms Collins said after the hearing that she will face bankruptcy proceedings if it is found that she cannot make the payments owed.
