Defending MP walks out of meeting amid rowdy scenes

A WOMAN who is defending her Bradford West seat walked out of a meeting called by the Muslim Women’s Council in the city on Wednesday night amid rowdy scenes.

Naz Shah was joined by Salma Yaqoob, a former Respect member who is contesting Bradford West as an independent, at a meeting billed as an information event rather than a hustings.

More than 300 people were at the event at Carlisle Business Centre in Manningham.

A POLITICAL platform for Muslim women which was dubbed a “hustings in all but name” was spectacularly shunned by Bradford West Labour candidate Naz Shah after she walked out before the debate had started in a show of defiant democracy.

Prior to the meeting starting, Ms Shah asked that because the constituency’s Conservative candidate George Grant was in the audience, that he be given a chance to speak.

Her request was refused because she was told “it’s not a hustings” and she walked out of the room to a mixture of applause and boos.

  2. such a shame an event was ruined by Naz Shah’s ego, maybe she’s a tad worried her eloquent rival will be able to usurp her seat but imagine she’ll get her baraderi clan in action disrupte and dominate Salma’s campaign.

    Interestingly, Rotherham’s very own Muhbeen Hussain criticised Salma standing in Bradford against Naz.. wonder why.. why would he be against a great opportunity to see two British Muslim women standing in an election with a good spirit and atmosphere?

    Ah, this is why…

    So much for peace and harmony eh.
