DUP backs deal to support Conservatives in exchange for £1.5 billion funding package

The DUP has backed a deal to support the minority Conservative government.

After talks at No 10 between Theresa May and DUP leader Arlene Foster, the pair hailed the agreement between the two parties.

DUP and Tories agree government deal

THE CONSERVATIVES have reached an agreement with the Democratic Unionist Party, which will see them support Theresa May’s minority government.

The deal comes after two weeks of talks between the parties since the snap general election resulted in a hung Parliament.

YP Comment: The Tories, DUP – and Yorkshire. Region’s MPs must come to party

THE Parliamentary pact negotiated by Scarborough-born chief whip Gavin Williamson, and which Theresa May has now agreed with Arlene Foster, leader of Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party, will bring about three benefits.

First, it means the Government can just about muster together a Commons majority if they’re no rebellions, starting with Thursday’s vote on the Queen’s Speech which should give Mrs May the authority to remain PM. It buys the Tory leader precious time.
