South Yorkshire MP blasts ‘floppy left’ for being afraid to speak on sex grooming gangs over racism fears

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has warned that the “floppy left” is afraid of speaking out on issues such as sex grooming gangs for fear of being branded racist.

The former shadow women and equalities secretary was forced to quit her frontbench role last month after a backlash for saying “Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls”.

The Labour MP used an interview with The Times to highlight differences in attitudes between the capital and Labour’s northern heartlands.

After her resignation Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn – an MP in Islington, north London – said his party would not “blame” or “demonise any particular group”.

  1. Well done sarah.

However nearer to home its hardly the left who have failed to speak out and warn people…its the right.
Keep campaigning and give a voice to those enduring the cse. Its likely to be still going on accross our town and other towns too as we speak.

There is still a conspiracy and wall of silence going on locally and nationally as over the last 20 years and those in the know in positions of authority who closed ranks. Failing families and 1000s of other victims enduring the same fate of rape, sexploitation and abuse.
They must be outed and be made fully accountable too as well as the perpetrators who must face justice.

  2. Those who fail to respond appropriately when faced with child sex exploitation and abuse, or condone in any way, including by absence of response, the actions of the abusers, become, by definition, abusers themselves. The law of joint enterprise, or common purpose, is clear, if people know of the possibility of a crime occurring, such as child abuse, but do nothing to stop it, then they are held in law as liable to prosecution as the actual abusers.

  3. I am a bit confused with Sarah Champion. Didn’t she stand down and apologise after saying this previously in a national newspaper? If she really wanted to make this statement, she should have forced Jeremy Corbyn to sack her, rather than back tracking.

  4. We’ve got 6 reports ready for the public, I am damn sure that they have been ratified (commissioners, leader of the council, chief executive) before they will be placed in front of the council.

Like what happens with council decisions and cllrs of a lately, head down, nod nod, and occasional wink wink.

The stance being portrayed by Sarah seems to have shifted from talking to the indigenous Pakistani heritage, to people who simply should have been doing their jobs.

Why don’t we wait for the latest report results that are due in.
