Whistleblower: Rotherham scandal ‘was no cock-up’

More than 15 years ago, former solicitor Adele Gladman detailed with “breathtaking clarity” how young girls in the Yorkshire town of Rotherham were being targeted outside schools, the bus station, children’s homes and homeless projects by predatory abusers who would go on to traffic them to different parts of the country and sell them for sex.

But her findings as part of a Home Office-funded project, which included detailed information on suspected perpetrators, were ignored or dismissed by senior figures in South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Council. And not only was the information she provided not acted upon, Gladman’s office in a Rotherham Council building being used by the Risky Business youth project she was working alongside was raided, her files stolen from a cabinet and her computer records altered by an unknown party or parties.

  1. Her detailed reporting in 2001, is in contradiction of Dr Heal report 2003.

“little information currently exists on the men who are the subject of this study”

Can someone please tell her to stop wasting our time and money, every thing that you eluded to be the whistleblowing truth, I would say including Jay, Casey and the latest are damming confirmation of your fairytale cover up nonsense!

Can we get back to reality 1400 children let down, it’s no longer about you and your failures, it’s all about the people who have survived the abuse now.

    • Ah, our resident atrocity denier. So you accept it was 1,400 now? There’s certainly a fairy tale being spun Tinkerbell but not by Gladman. I see no contradiction between saying the men were typically of Pakistani heritage and taxi drivers and “little information currently exists”. That is relatively little information. And she didn’t allege a cover up (though the evidence exists and is being handled by people more competent than RMBC or SYP). What she says is that the managers had detailed monthly reports on the rape and torture of girls and did nothing. Criminal negligence. And who had motive and opportunity to amend the notes on the computer to include meetings with council staff that never happened? The Janitor?
Did the inquiries interview the whistleblower (linked somewhere on this site) who was ordered to hand over a weeping little girl to a baying mob of rapists? No criminal offence there?
You are obviously one of those with your noses in the trough and a vested interest in letting this be buried. Don’t count your chickens. The investigation continues and we find out more every day. We will keep on for as long as it takes, even if it means dragging you from your nursing home pissing your pants.

    • Hotspot, are you saying that the “Chapter 4” report of 2001 written by Adele Gladman is in contradiction the report by Angie Heal titled “Sexual-Exploitation-Drug-Use-and-Drug-Dealing-the-Current-Situation-in-South-Yorkshire” of August 2003, which is where the phrase ““little information currently exists on the men who are the subject of this study” occurs ?
Perhaps you could explain this in some detail, ‘cos you have lost me.

      • … and Hotspot do you agree with this from the 2003 Heal report, section 5.4 Rotherham.

About 30 or 40 girls are believed to being sexually exploited in Rotherham at present. This is considerably reduced from 2001 when BBC News 5Live (Angus Stickler, 29.07.01.) reported:
“In Rotherham alone, for example, 80 girls are said to be working as prostitutes. There appears to be a highly organised network of pimps involving some as young as 12. There is evidence that they are being transported from Rotherham to private addresses in red light districts as far a field as Bradford and Sheffield.”

BTW – at the time she wrote that report she didn’t have a doctorate.

    • Well say it then, Gladman sat on her laurels for over a decade, Andrew Norfolk comes knocking regarding the 2010 case and the SCR, Giles get a life.

  2. Can’t understand why you would walk away after coming to an agreement with the council and let these children continue to be raped and tortured. Then have the cheek to comeback fourteen years later and talk about the cover up.This doesn’t add up and a safeguarding professional to.

    • Gary smith none of it seems to add up any more , but what I do no is if a parent fails to protect a child then they end up in court n prob will not be able to have a child in their care again,, so why is it differant for professionals to fail kids and move on to other jobs all the rules on working with children need looking into and changing,, and as for whistleblowers I’m sorry but why would you just sit back instead of shouting from roof tops, and then come back years later and earn money from what you walked away from ,, a hell of a lot of things are coming out but I dowt the truth and The answers will never be given either,

  3. Do you know how much psychological distress is suffered by “whistleblowers” who are blocked from presenting their evidence of the truth for several years? I guarantee you that nothing bad that has happened in Rotherham has happened as a result of any cock up. Rotherham is corrupt to the core. Blaming people who attempt to disclose evidence, and who are blocked from doing so is idiotic! When I was teaching at Rotherham College, I experienced students of “Pakistani Heritage”. They could do pretty much what they wanted, and if you objected, they would often pull the race card. One mature student used to walk out of my class less than halfway through the lesson to meet a young girl at the end of the corridor, and I was powerless to stop him, having been told by my superiors that I could not force him to stay in the lesson. He did the same thing every week, and even had the cheek to return just before the end of the lesson. I never knew who Mad Ash was, but my students talked about him, and they were obviously aware of his “activities”. I’ve since pondered on how many of those first meetings with girls, who were later groomed, have been facilitated by “students”, many of whom actually had no real interest in studying. There are still many accounts of wrongdoing in that town that are untold, because of people in power blocking the truth. It helps nobody to attack and blame those who tried and failed to reveal those truths.

  4. Gary Smith, you won’t get answers by verbally abusing anyone. Listen, gather evidence, analyse…then ask more questions. Refuse to be sidetracked, but do not lay blame until your evidence is solid. There are already enough victims of paedophiles all over Twitter who have descended into a futile, random blaming culture. I understand it. I empathise, but it is destructive. Rotherham’s victims and survivors do not need to be sidetracked down such a path.

  5. Gary Smith, I think your ability to research is extremely poor if you don’t know who I am. You have not rattled anyone’s cage. My interest in this is purely that I have experienced first hand the massively destructive corruption in this town that has led to the destruction of many lives. You only know about the 1,400 in the limelight. Now use your head and start to wonder how many whistle-blowers must have been silenced (and who by, and using what powers), to have kept this firmly under wraps for at least a decade. (And start to wonder how many others have been abused by those same powers). Then ask yourself how the truth can become so distorted, even after perpetrators have been jailed for extended terms, that their victims are denied compensation by a government body that, post trial, has sought to retry the victims and claim for a second time that they consented to their abuse. Then you might get close to who you need to have a fight with!

  6. We have at least 1400 girls abused in Rotherham, how many abusers in total? I reckon 100’s if not 1000’s Has there been any more than 8 convictions? The council and South Yorkshire police need investigating by the CPS. It leaves me no confidence what so ever in the establishment in our country.

  7. Gary Smith, you may use your own name here, but I have no idea who you are. What I do know is that you are naive in the extreme if you believe that there are no repercussions to face for people who have hidden knowledge. I cannot tell you anything worthwhile about the core matters that are being discussed on this thread, but I can tell you one helluvalot about how people are destroyed by people in power, without anyone around them knowing it has happened. I can tell you about how people are silenced and are left paranoid (with good cause), devoid of trust, and with nowhere to turn. I can tell you about the rape victims that I have met, who are not necessarily included in that 1400. I can tell you how I saw first hand how their lives had been destroyed, how the very heart of their souls had been ripped out of them. This is not a game, and it is not for people to push random opinions. This town is still sick, and it will remain sick until those with power get on this side!

    • If you don’t know who I am you need to do your research but I agree with you about the problems in Rotherham and other places in the uk.The system is broken but I will still fight for the truth as I have done for years and the professionals who are part of the problem and not the solution who need to be held accountable. The thing is I don’t walk away I fight for the victims, survivors and families.

  8. “We have imported hell on earth”

“I must respond to what you just heard. It’s easy to call me Marine Le Pen, it’s easy to call me National Front, it’s easy to dismiss all of these things. I don’t care. I don’t care what people call me, I don’t care what the press call me. They’re going to apologise to me, by the way. Let me tell you what I do care about.

On the train on the way down here today, I read an article about Sandwell in Birmingham, where over a five year period, more than 6,000 young British children were raped by grooming gangs in that small area of Birmingham. 6,000 children in a five year period. I care about that. And I care about the fact that we are STILL lying, we are still attacking people. Look at what happened with Sarah Champion, the MP for Rotherham when she dared to speak up and tell a few harsh, home truths. It’s the truth.

When she dared to speak it, she was forced to resign from her job. Soon afterwards, we had another Labour MP who retweets on Twitter that girls should shut up for the sake of diversity. I care about this. This is the rape of Britain’s daughters, and the truth of the matter is that we have imported hell on earth, and that Europe is still importing hell on earth. Thousands every day.

I will not run away from this. I will tell the truth, and I will stand up to the corrupt media who continues to smear and lie, and I will stand up to anyone – including in UKIP – who continues to smear and lie. This is the rape of your children. Let’s stand up and fight for them.”

That’s why Healey and Barron refused to call for an enquiry in 2012 and 2013
How many could have been saved if they had done so
Neither one has said why they didn’t I wonder why they did not want an enquiry then ??

  11. Barron is corrupt as! I know this from first hand experience. There is supposed to be an Inspector from South Yorkshire Police investigating what I have revealed about corruption in these parts. Has been doing for over six months now. To get that inspector involved, I had to go through my own hell, which culminated in me being assaulted, pepper-sprayed and having a malicious prosecution brought against me, (a matter that is currently with the IPCC…what are the chances of that ending in my favour! I have first hand knowledge and paper evidence that CCTV footage was deliberately destroyed in order to cover up what they did. They are still as corrupt as when they were throwing away CSE victims clothing. Nothing has changed. Nothing will. We need a big clean out!! And we need to stop accepting more minor levels of corruption as the norm. That is how we ended up with this mess in the first place! The gravy train needs sending to the scrap yard.

  14. Gary, inanimate objects do not disappear of the planet, because they are inanimate. Likewise, evidence is inanimate. You cannot lose evidence permanently unless it has been thrown away. If it has just been misplaced, then it will eventually be found. (There’s even a plausible explanation for the socks that are eaten by your washing machine!) I believe that this evidence has been missing now for long enough that it can be assumed to have been “thrown away”, or otherwise destroyed. If SYP have got another explanation for how it can still be in their possession, but in a place where nobody has yet looked for it…then I’m all ears!!
