West Yorkshire police chief Mark Gilmore ‘asked staff to be wife’s taxi’

A former police chief asked colleagues to pick up his wife from the airport, according to court documents alleging that he abused his position.

Mark Gilmore, who ran West Yorkshire police, retired last year, two weeks after an internal report by Lancashire police regarding allegations of gross misconduct.

The review was requested by Mark Burns-Williamson, the region’s police and crime commissioner, after a whistleblower came forward in August 2014.

Among the allegations levelled at Mr Gilmore are inappropriate sexual comments to female staff, using police resources to taxi him to social events and throwing items at staff while in a rage.
