A Labour MP had the whip removed and was suspended from the party last night after allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him.
Kelvin Hopkins, 76, has been accused of sending “inappropriate” text messages to a young woman and rubbing himself up against her after a political event, according to The Daily Telegraph.
Labour said that it received the allegations yesterday. Mr Hopkins has been suspended while they were investigated. Ava Etemadzadeh, 27, told the newspaper that she informed the whips’ office at the time of the incident in 2014 and that a local party member contacted the leader’s office last year.

The Labour MP suspended from the party over allegations of sexual harassment reportedly rubbed himself against a young activist and sent her text messages in which he lamented being too old to be her “lover”.
Kelvin Hopkins, who represents Luton North, is accused by Ava Etemadzadeh, now 27, of sending a series of messages in 2015 in which he described her as “a lovely young woman – attractive, intelligent, charming and sweet natured”.
He allegedly added: “A nice young man would be lucky to have you as a girlfriend and lover. I am sure one such is soon to be found. Were I to be young…but I am not.”
