With growing numbers of bank branches due to close across Yorkshire in the next few months, Chris Burn finds out about the devastating impact on one community that has already said goodbye to its services.

“Wath used to be called the Queen of Villages. Now it is just a bus stop.” It has been six months since the final two bank branches in Wath-upon-Dearne closed their doors, but the anger is still fresh for many residents like Bob Goode who say their community has suffered a noticeable decline as a direct result of the loss of HSBC and Yorkshire Bank.

  1. Fully agree with communities like Wath where banks have deserted them despite the bailout.

    See that clown cllr for wath has got his face in picture. The same cllr who allegedly helped coverup the cse grooming of local children for years?

    Now he is planning reckless attacks on the community by cutting fire safety to the public.
