A FRACKING firm’s plans to drill in Woodsetts have been recommended for refusal by planning officers when councillors meet today.
Rotherham Borough Council’s planning board is set to vote on Ineos Shale’s proposal this morning.
A report has recommended the members reject the application — for a 2,800-metre vertical well on Dinnington Road — on environmental grounds.
It said: “The council considers that the supporting ecological information provided with the application is deficient to determine the application.

COUNCILLORS unanimously rejected a fracking firm’s proposal to drill in Woodsetts after more than two hours of debate.
Rotherham Borough Council’s planning board today threw out Ineos Shale’s bid to create a 2,800-metre vertical well on Dinnington Road on environmental and highway safety grounds.
The Town Hall meeting heard passionate speeches from protest group Woodsetts Against Fracking and local residents, as well as arguments from representatives of Ineos.
Tom Pickering, operations director of Ineos Shale, said that any gas found underground would be part of the national resource and the company had an obligation to explore for it.

THE company which wanted to create a 2,800-metre vertical well on farmland in Woodsetts has said it is disappointed that the plan has been thrown out.
Members of protest group Woodsetts Against Fracking and local residents voiced their views at the packed meeting, and there have been hundreds of written objections to the project.
Planning officers had recommended refusal.
Now Ineos Shale have said the firm is saddened at the decision which could have national ramifications.
