South Yorkshire Police may sell unused buildings and make officers share accommodation

Unused police stations could be sold off across South Yorkshire, with local officers moved to share accommodation with other public sector colleagues, as the force looks to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Policing has changed significantly in recent years and officers now have their ‘office’ on a laptop computer or mobile telephone, meaning a physical base is not the crucial factor it traditionally has been.

    That statement implies that the force is currently actually operating efficiently and effectively – if that is the case, why has it got unused buildings and why hasn’t it sold these premises before now, er, given that we are now nearly a decade into the age of AUSTERITY!!!!!!!

  2. Given the size of the towns and their large outlying areas it is wishful thinking that SYP can operate from their laptops and mobile phones efficiently. There is a need ,within communities in outlying areas, to have a local Police Station which they can attend, in person, should the need arise. Where there are buildings which can be classed as surplus stock then go ahead and sell them off but you must not lose these essential satellite stations where immediate face to face contact is available !
