Sexism row MP Jared O’Mara urged to stand down by Sheffield voters

methode_times_prod_web_bin_5776f10a-86b1-11e8-ad58-ae35970199d3An MP who quit the Labour Party this week, claiming that it had made him feel like a criminal over abusive comments he made online, has been urged to stand down by constituents.

Jared O’Mara, 36, took Sheffield Hallam in last year’s general election from Nick Clegg, the former deputy prime minister who was then leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Before he had even spoken in the House of Commons, a string of homophobic and misogynistic comments he had made online in his twenties resurfaced and prompted his suspension from the party. He was readmitted this month, but handed in his resignation on Thursday, saying that he would sit as an independent MP until the next election.

Jared O’Mara is not, and was never, fit to be an MP in the first place – I think that he’s an attention-seeker who stood against Nick Clegg for a laugh but the sad fact is that he won the Hallam seat and never had a clue about what being an MP entailed. Now he says he’s staying in his constituency seat as an Independent until the next election, representing no-one but himself whilst continuing to cost taxpayers a small fortune and greedily pocketing his £74,000 a year salary. What a nice little earner for a part-timer!! Jared, you’re a disgrace and should resign NOW as you’re not fit to have the title MP after your name in any capacity!
