Allies urge Jeremy Corbyn to back down on antisemitism

Jeremy Corbyn’s closest allies are lobbying him to back down in Labour’s bitter antisemitism row with the Jewish community.

Over the past month Labour has been engulfed by accusations of hostility to Jews after the party decided to rewrite parts of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism before adopting it into its code of conduct.

The decision to modify the definition was made by Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee (NEC), which is controlled by allies of Mr Corbyn. But in a sign that the pro-Corbyn majority is fracturing several now believe that Mr Corbyn should agree to adopt the definition in full.
