THE police watchdog’s investigation into whether former police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright lied to MPs has found he did not commit a criminal offence.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will not make a referral to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) following an investigation into complaints made against the former South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

It was alleged by two complainants – one by CSE whistleblower Jayne Senior – Mr Wright had committed perjury when giving evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee (HASC) on September 9, 2014, when he was still PCC.

  1. This is not specifically about the news item above, but is a more general comment about the total lack of respect of so-called ‘responsible adults’ for children.. especially those purportedly ‘in care’. It is utterly fascinating to watch as some men, who perpetrated the terrible crimes against youngsters in Rotherham and other areas, are finally – after years of noted harm – jailed, yet those in charge of safeguarding such children, over the last couple of decades, who must have known and to a large extent shut their eyes to what was happening in front of them, are all walking around quite happily.

They leave the police force with nice fat pensions, they move on from the ‘care system’ and from its oversight, straight up the sticky pole. The yfind noce cushy numbers, in drugs control, children’s safeguarding, and on the Boards of Children’s Hospitals and flourishing, commercial charities.

‘Dereliction of duty’, as a concept, seems to have passed into history.

Perhaps we should all gain such protection against our lack of involvement in the work for which we are paid? Whatever happened to ‘honour’ and ‘duty’? Why do we so dismiss the right to safety, and the long term memories, of children?

  2. There would appear to be more holes in the Investigator’s Report than in a length of Nottingham lace ! If this is the best the IOPC can do by way of “investigation” then it should be disbanded and fully replaced by a body capable of doing the job ! When Op Linden couldn’t “find” reports, for example, why didn’t the Investigator simply attempt to access them from RMBC Archives ?? “Whitewash” is inadequate to describe the contents of this Report.

  3. Please consider the following proposals.
Shaun Wright was not bullied out of his job because of what he failed to do or what he allegedly did not know, but because, as with RMBC, he had lost control of the flow of information, which, if all were to be exposed, would have been politically embarrassing as it would have shown that senior civil servants and politicians knew and buried the truth the public knowledge of which would cause serious reputational harm.
He had to be replaced urgently.
RMBC senior management and leading councillors had also lost control of the flow of information so had to be replaced, for which two reports ‘did the job’.
With the imposition of the ( Common Purpose ) commissioners and with a new police commissioner of known local historical political loyalty, it was possible to contain the pending burst of the information dam wall with what has proved to be a very successful damage limitation exercise, with the ongoing wilful cooperation of all institutions with purview.

  4. With the PCC candidates likely to win the nomination they ensured whoever won – they would have to ensure the cover up was continued. All involved as candidates appeared to have connections or conflict of intrest.

The weasel words used by MPs, police, cllrs and officers were Scale and scope which suggests they knew it was going off but not the scale. Regardless of 1, 14, 140 or 1400 if it was their kids would they look the other way????

It went right to the top both locally and nationally.
