Rotherham Politics was started to open up political scrutiny, using the many tools* that are now available to us on the web. Politics is moving on-line and we will be there to report on developments.
Recent changes have opened up to citizens an enormous amount of new and detailed information, that may be used to scrutinise those elected to conduct the ‘peoples business’, from National Government down to parish councils!
The sole purpose of this web site, is to scrutinise local elected representatives transacting the ‘peoples business’.
This is largely a web only operation. Rotherham Politics gathers together the work of many individuals, in a way that make us more than the sum of all of our parts.
This site is distinctly non-aligned politically. We believe that all legal political opinion is valid and has a right to be heard!
All opinions expressed whether as a post or comment, should be subject to critical review and debate. Once published, opinions become ‘public property’ and fully open to debate.
Rotherham Politics, allows comments and posts from Anonymous contributors. The identities of the majority, are know to me. Those whose identities are not known to me are closely moderated. They are also encouraged to register with Rothpol to improve the chances of future publication. No swearing, no trolls, are the only rules. Rothpol prefers to publish reasoned argument and debate, rather the mere derogatory comment, with no justification for their opinion.
The approach is to be objective, if necessary, critical but fair. We will at times be blunt and controversial to stimulate discussion.

*I refer here to the numerous collaboration tools, that enable groups of like minded people to operate both in private and across geographically distant areas, as we have in Rotherham.

What really needs to be exposed are the ‘extra’ allowances (spending money) which councillors receive simply for being councillors. They are nominated by their peers to other groups, such as Police, Fire, Transport authorities and receive allowances for these as well. These allowances are published on the individual authorities websites, but they do not appear on the Rotherham Council website, so we council tax payers are being duped into thinking that our councillors actually do a lot more than they are paid for. There needs to be full transparency and councillors should be made to declare everything they receive by virtue of being a councillor, from whatever source.

Word of mouth in the internet age is the best way I have found. The Advertiser has yet to even publish the address of this site in the print paper so there will be little chance of a spread.

A welcome addition to the local political scene, and one that’s sure to encourage openness and transparency – or am I fooling myself? Maybe we can start by pressing the council to broadcast their meetings on the Internet.

That’s exactly what this blog is all about! We need openness and honesty from all those who purport to serve us! The exact opposite to what we see currently in fact. Parish councils run as private fiefdoms and the whole Town run in the same way. We own the democratic process not the Labour Party and it is time for us all to stand up and be counted! Let’s get busy.

Bloggers and commenters, as part of what is called blogger etiquette often use pseudonyms. Not to hide behind, as their true identity is known and not a secret but to manage their internet footprint. Especially important as employers regularly check the internet!

Hello ,I am a regular follower of Rotherham politics but left to live in another country for job -related opportunities —-I,however visit the town of my youth. I would like to obtain an answer to a question that interests me from an historical and sociological point of view.What caused the population of Pakistanis to rise to the existing levels in Rotherham ? I am interested in the factors that caused these changes from the Rtherham ,I knew ,in the 50,60,70.
Before anyone makes SJW ,racist accusations which I have no interest in ,my interest is genuine and purely academic.

It would be quite interesting to have a discussion regarding Councillor John Turner’s remarks at the recent planning board meeting. He forced the chairman to turn off his microphone due to inappropriate racial remarks made against the extension of a Rotherham place of worship.
