Denial, Delusion or Misinformation?

Dear Rotherham Politics readers,

Imagine my surprise when I found this little nugget on Facebook this morning –

About Darren
I’m a Labour Councillor for the Anston and Woodsetts Ward of Rotherham Borough Council.

Is this the triumph of hope over expectation, or just the can’t-be-arrsed-to-properly-inform folks that many RothPol readers and Rovrum active and empowered citizens have grown accustomed to from Dodger’s Corn Fed Grunters, Muppets and Clowns?

Or should the location be changed to Hopeful Dreamer for Rawmish?

Hmm, leading bizniss-man, Porsche-afficionado and champayne commissar to Da Partee, oh really, do parss the Pinot Grigio there’s a left-wing lovey-dovey darling do?

Mind how ya go.

Hospital job for our very own Mark Edgell!!!

Dear Rotherham Politics Readers,

It was with a sense of disappointment, but not disbelief that I read this recent article in the “Star” –

It seems there’s no limit to the extent to which Rovrum’s Corn Fed Grunters, Muppets and Clowns will put both feet into the civic trough to find an easy feed at taxpayer expense. Not for them a lowly-paid hard-working job, no way Comrade, no way at all.

I would be interested, overjoyed and full of happiness to find out just what special talents, abilities, lifes experiences and commitments this latest drain on the public purse will bring to the Board of Rotherham Hospital Foundation Trust.

We must be getting pretty desperate to be taking on such parachute champions.

Kind Regards,

Firstly the Press Release:

Serious Case Review – Child S

Published: Tuesday 29th May 2012

Services supporting children and young people have made changes to ensure lessons are learnt from the death of a young mother in Rotherham.

Rotherham Local Safeguarding Children Board has today published its Serious Case Review into the case of the 17-year-old, known as Child S, who was found murdered in October 2010. An 18-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in prison after admitting her killing.
The review highlights a number of issues where services could have been improved and has made recommendations, which have already been acted on by agencies across Rotherham.  It also makes clear that although there are elements of services which need to improve, there is no suggestion any individual or agency failings led to Child S’ death.
The independent report also reflects on the major recent improvements which have been made to services generally across Rotherham and says the many initiatives introduced should reduce the risk of a similar case happening again.
Alan Hazell, Chair of the Rotherham Local Safeguarding Children Board, said: “This is a wide ranging study which shows a very complex situation surrounding Child S and her child which made it difficult for agencies to engage with her.
“There is no suggestion that anyone could have saved Child S from what ultimately happened to her but clearly her care could have been improved. There were chances for those agencies to be more proactive in how they dealt with the case and all agencies involved accept that and apologise that the standards of service were not as high as they should have been.
“It is vital that agencies learn from what happened here and there is clearly a commitment in Rotherham to make that happen. As the report comments, there are already many initiatives in place to ensure that services are now improved.
“That is reflected by the removal of a Government Improvement Notice last year and a rating of ‘performs adequately’ in the latest national Children’s Services Assessment ratings.
“We now need to step up the pace of improvement and the Board will continue to oversee the work of agencies in Rotherham to ensure that children, young people and their families receive improved services both now and in the future.”
Among the changes already introduced are:
  • Creation of new Contact And Referral Team (CART) to provide improved initial assessments and better access to services
  • Introduction of specialist support teams e.g. Learning Disability Services, Complex Health Care team, and Looked After Children’s Services.
  • Establishment of Learning Communities which provide clear routes to care and support for every child and young person and help co-ordinate Prevention and Early Intervention work in each community.
  • Quarterly performance monitoring by the Children and Young People’s Trust Board of progress under the Children and Young People’s Plan

Rotherham’s Disgrace – The questions begin?

As an active and empowered citizen and unpaid community volunteer with an interest in the costs and activities of RMBC Elected Members and Officers I read the following article with profound concern –

I note with deep concern that “Rotherham Council dropped its application for a High Court injunction to prevent the disclosure of all the findings” and I wish to know –

1. The total cost of the High Court injunction and any and all of the cost of legal advice and/or opinion given to RMBC from either within or without the organisation, in relation to the Serious Case Review mentioned in the article.

2. Please provide a specific itemised cost and date breakdown in relation to the legal costs requested in (1) above.

Please provide the above information in electronic format and within the timescale specified in the Freedom of Information Act.

Yours Sincerely,
Donald H. Buxton

Rotherham’s Disgrace – Why has no one been called to account?

So, once again, RMBC has been publicly shown to be completely inadequate in its ability to protect a Rotherham child from harm and sexual exploitation by despicable, wicked, evil Rotherham men.

And, once again, all the multitude of warning signs were there for all to see. But being RMBC, once again they gave those signs the “Nelson’s eye” and it’s all turned out to be such an unpredictable horror for them.

Has this failure to act to protect the town’s children cost any of the highly-paid RMBC Elected Members and Officers their jobs?

Has there been a very public apology from Da Dodger at this corporate failure which occurred within his organisation and on his watch?

No not a bit of it.

No public apology or confirmation of sackings, reprimands, lessons learned, demotions – in fact no penalties for failure at all on the part of those who are well-paid and tasked with the legal duty of protection of our town’s children.

No, everyone will have moved on to bigger and better things. Some will even delude themselves into thinking themselves as worthy candidates to head-up our county’s statutory crime fighting agency. And the Elected Members will continue to draw higher than Sheffield Council remuneration for yet another lack-lustre discharge of their public duties.

Yours in continued abject disappointment,

Could there ever be live weblinks for RMBC Council Meetings?

Good Morning Rotherham Friends,

Maybe, like me, you’re still wondering why there could still be such profound reluctance and unease on the part of Rotherham Labour Group who continue to dominate RMBC Elected Members to deny the proceedings of our Council Meetings to be accessible to us, the tax paying public, via weblinks.

Perhaps this little incident where an Australian citizen confronts a politician may just begin to give you a clue –

If we can’t both see, hear and read what’s going on down at Town Hall Towers, then do those Elected Members expect us to rely purely on their sincere assurances and the scant sanitised selective Minutes they make … over to you … you decide …

Let them always remember, THEY work for US …
