Ukip’s getting very excited about a poll result. That might be a mistake… It’s not very hard to get a pollster to tell you what you want to hear http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/ukip/11440174/Ukips-getting-very-excited-about-a-poll-result.-That-might-be-a-mistake….html this isn’t bad either No major party has a plausible … Continue reading

MacShane Expenses Scandal – cream of the Telegraph comments

Couldn’t resist bringing these particular comments on the Telegraph website, to readers attention. Dominic Lawson sums this up in an op-ed piece when he deprecated the “type of man of the left for whom the essential and intrinsic virtuousness of his public positions allows him to retain his sense of personal rectitude even when his private conduct is deplorable.” Seems to sum up the situation pretty well to me!

Looks like a straight forward case of fraud to me.  Claims for round numbers ten times the amount for when he had to produce a receipt. No one gets through eight laptops in three years for personal use – not least because they all come with 1yr warranties, so the very most you can get through if every one of them fails after a year is 3.  (For example, I have owned two laptops in the last four years.)  He was presumably supplying them to friends and family.  No doubt they all show signs of heavy use, inconsistent with him only using them 1/8th of the time – assuming they can be traced at all.He had his “mistake” pointed out to him, no doubt by a junior house of commons employee with very good cause to worry about their job in taking someone like him on, yet he makes the same “mistake” the next month.  That is strong evidence of a crime, as it rules out the possibility of him claiming ignorance as  a defence. It would be interesting to see if the prices his brother’s firm changed him for translation differed markedly from commercial rates elsewhere.  If they were a lot higher that would also be evidence of fraud.  So would evidence of make-work – creating work for his brother’s firm when none were needed.Hopefully someone will bring a private prosecution if there is not prosecuted by the CPS.  The evidence should definitely be tested in court.  If he has an explanation for it all then he maybe the jury won’t find him guilty.

A thoroughly unpleasant man,  constantly sneering at the public.  I hope he gets his comeuppance

“MacShane claimed between £150 and £250 a month for cleaning from the start of 2004 until 2008, when new rules meant that MPs had to submit receipts for all claims over £25. Thereafter, his cleaning claims dropped to £24.”What a coincidence! What a piece of low life to bring in to it, his daughter’s death! Are we going to hear anything so disgraceful from any of these filthy crooks who have made a personal fortune and/or lived the high life at the expense of workers and pensioners who are struggling to pay the bills? Words (nearly) fail me!

Denis McShane is a crook.  The evidence shows that he was well aware as to what he was doing and thought himself too clever by half.To use in mitigation the death of his daughter  is an act of a callous, shallow individual.  Not uncommon personality traits amongst today’s politicians.

Staff at the House of Commons were routinely told that MPs had authorised the allowances and staff should simply pay them without vetting or checking. All MPs allowances paid through this dis-credited system should be gone through with a fine tooth comb.  I thought that had already been done but apparently not.It is difficult for the public to have confidence in this system (or the new system) when mistakes can be picked up by “members of the public” that have been missed by the people with the “fine tooth comb”.

I like the final comment from petermorris because It raises perhaps the most important question of all. If Peter Thirlwall was able to uncover this pretty simple deception, how much more would there be to be discovered? If the full information was available to them, relating to all MPs serving during these years, and the time to do it was available! Parliamentary Authorities claim that they have done it, but clearly this is not true!

Wouldn’t it be nice for the Rotherham Advertiser to attract comments as good as these? Support for MacShane seems to be non-existent. Even labour members from within the Rotherham Constituency are silent, deafeningly so! If Labour members support MacShane then speak up! If not, do us all a favour and get rid of him!
