So in the land of Socialism, our well paid Mayor invites his well paid councillor mates along to a four star hotel for a £40 per head slap up meal, the Mayor arrives in his chauffeur driven BMW ET 1.
RMBC has two top of the range dedicated BMWs one for transporting the Mayor and one for transporting the Leader
The new Riverside building has the Ministry of Food bistro and the Town Hall has its own in-house catering facility, so no need for our Councillors to go hungry.
In the town where everyone matters, Cllr John Doyle is considering if a consultation on the removal of day centre transport and hearty meals for disabled adults should go ahead.
The anonymous council spokeswoman reassures us that the move will be good for service users and they will not have to spend so much time travelling, what waffle, she clearly has no understanding of the social benefits adults with learning difficulties can gain from a trip into a centre with friends.
So there we have it! Cllr Dave Pickering can spend money like water on four star meals and be driven about in his BMW, but for adults with learning difficulties, no meal and no transport.
Rotherham Politics published this amusing story about Dave/David Pickering:
Rotherham’s very own ‘Call me Dave’, has difficulty remembering his own name correctly, it would appear! I speak of Councillor Dave Pickering, who is currently Deputy Mayor and therefore next years, Mayor of Rotherham. Our story starts in March 2007, … Continue reading →
Thanks to the growing band of Borough Councillors using Twitter, it was possible to follow events as they unfolded today in the Council Chamber.
The new Mayor? Dave Pickering, the new Deputy Mayor? John Foden.
Mayors Dinner tonight, a few tweets to give us a flavour of events, would be most appreciated.
Rotherham Politics poses the difficult questions:
Why are the Conservatives in Rotherham so poor at providing opposition?
Why did the independent remuneration panel only take evidence and advice from Council Officers, before recommending more? Rotherham Politics thinks that ordinary people should have had an input!
Where was Iain StJohn, when he was unaccountably missing from meetings of Anston parish council last week? And the linked questions, why were the usually rowdy and domineering Labour members so polite and quiet? Will this spread to other parish councils? No one should hold their breath whilst waiting, leopards do not change their spots!
Surely, when the Council nods through Councillors allowances, aren’t they actually setting the total sum to be paid, not with extras like a pension or NI payments? Councillors are not employees! Are these extra payments actually legal? Interesting question at least!
When will all Rotherham’s citizens be able to view meetings over the internet? This is an equalities issue as well as an outrageous deficit in Rotherham’s democracy! The cameras are not just for Mayor making, they are for every day!
Aren’t ‘special responsibility’ payments supposed to be paid for ‘special responsibilities’? Why then, are most Labour members in receipt of these ‘special’ payments? There’s nothing ‘special’ if everyone gets them!
What does RotherFed actually achieve? Beyond providing employment opportunities for at least one ‘favoured son’, it would appear?
When will the RMBC website actually let the public view what is being done in their name? The search function is a waste of time, just when you think you have found the document you seek, it’s invariably missing! There is some evidence that the search functions work an awful lot better if you are logged on through the Council’s own servers.
Is the Great Firewall of Rotherham, Up or Down?
Section 106 Agreements, aren’t they just legalised extortion?
Did the community champion wear himself out with his recent magnum opus in the Advertiser? Or has he realised that you cannot defend the indefensible?
Why exactly does Chairman Ireland of Anston parish council, want a chain of office?
Why has ‘Darren the Defector’, been the most common search term for over a month now?
Are there any Liberals left in Rotherham?
How much does the Mayoralty cost? Isn’t it just an expensive anachronism? Why did it become a political reward and part of the Leader’s patronage? Why have all been Labour?
Rotherham’s very own ‘Call me Dave’, has difficulty remembering his own name correctly, it would appear! I speak of Councillor Dave Pickering, who is currently Deputy Mayor and therefore next years, Mayor of Rotherham.
Our story starts in March 2007, when David Pickering, decided that Dave Pickering sounded much better and made a statutory declaration to the world at Rotherham Magistrates Court that from then on wished to be known as Dave. Download pdf reference.
‘Call me Dave’ got on with life as Dave without apparent difficulty. Until May 4th 2011, that is, when he was called upon to provide a witness statement for the self same Court he had been in in 2007 declaring his name change.
On May 4th 2011, ‘Call me Dave’ gave this witness statement, Download pdf here. This one is a real insight into the mindset and abilities of David ‘Call me Dave’ Pickering! Firstly he uses the now defunct name of David Pickering. Secondly he claims his occupation as Councillor, complete with a howler of a misspelling!
Just in case ‘Call me Dave’ Pickering, or any of the other councillors on Rotherham MBC, for that matter, being a councillor is not an occupation! Nor is it employment, if it were they would be Officers and would therefore, be barred from being a councillor! It is a circular argument I know, but I would have thought that at least Labour Group members would be familiar with this rather important distinction. Pay packet, in this instance, does not equal job! Simples, as it is said!
The mindset that views being a councillor as an occupation, speaks volumes as to attitudes prevalent amongst Labour members of the Council and goes to the heart of what is wrong in ‘Scum Labour’, Rotherham.
This story was made possible by the efforts of ‘a Rotherham citizen’ to whom we are very grateful.
It has been revealed today, that Rotherham’s Labour MP, Denis MacShane is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police for his less than open and now it would appear, less than honest approach to his parliamentary claims.
The complaint of 7th July 2009 was indeed submitted by a BNP activist, who is being referred to as the ‘Sleaze buster’, one Michael Barnbrook. The responses to his original complaint can now be viewed here on the website of the BNP Reform Group. Despite the source of the complaint, we should all be grateful that this sorry saga is now to be thoroughly investigated. There are further issues, that go to the heart of our democratic procedures, that will be the subject of a later posting.
In the report of the 12th October Meeting, published 14th October, 2010 of the, Committee on Standards and Privileges reads:
‘the Committee agreed that the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards should report to the Metropolitan Police Service the conduct of the Rt hon Member for Rotherham, Mr Denis MacShane’.
This blog, Peter Thirlwall’s Parliamentary Website and Rotherham Independents has featured many of the questionable purchases made on Parliamentary expenses and has openly criticised him for this. Now we feel totally vindicated and Peter Thirlwall’s attempt to raise many of these issues during the General Election campaign now fully justified.
We warned the voters of the Rotherham Constituency and Denis Himself, that MacShane would be eventually forced to answer the many justifiable questions his constituents have asked him but have gone unanswered. Now it has come to pass! We are willing to present our evidence of MacShane’s less than honest or justifiable expenses claims to the Metropolitan Police who we feel confident will be asking Denis many questions and they will. no doubt, get the answers we were denied.
This slippery, oily, arrogant and self-aggrandising politician looks set to follow ‘Honest’ Eric Illsley, Barnsley’s own disgraced MP, into Court to pay the price for his wrongdoing, along with Elliot Morley, Jim Devine and David Chaytor as well as Tories Lord Hanningfield and Lord Taylor.
Now suspended from the Parliamentary Labour Party and presumably the Labour Party, it is further evidence that Labour did a very poor job at vetting it’s candidates prior to the General Election and gives the lie to Gordon Brown’s claims to have done so, yet again Labour has let us down so badly! How many more greedy MPs will will come out of the ‘woodwork’ into the light one wonders?
Attached to his house in Rotherham just off Moorgate Road this is his rather expensive Constituency office in Rotherham.
No services are provided to this ‘office’ so without using his house attached his staff could not possibly work there! This may be a good time for Kath Sims, his secretary who works in this ‘office’, to look for a new job, I would have thought?
His brother, Edmund Matyjaszek, is also embroiled in this expenses controversy as Denis made a number of payments to a rather shadowy organisation called the European Policy Institute for ‘research and translation’. Headmaster Edmund, may come to regret this grubby little arrangement with his brother.
Many questions are still being asked about the eight laptops he bought from his parliamentary expenses, where are they now? Where have they been? Who has been using them? All unanswered.
These issues and the many other questionable expenses arrangements he has made over the years look set to bite him on the backside, big style!
We may now have a clue as to why he is so upset with IPSA and the new arrangements, making it more difficult to conceal any ‘Spanish’ practises from the authorities, perhaps?
In some parts of the Rotherham Constituency Labour Party there are quiet celebrations at Denis’s discomfiture and the sound of knives being sharpened ready for another attempt to rid themselves of this odious and disagreeable man, who they didn’t want in the first place. Power to their elbows I say!
There is also a small group of very embarrassed supporters who are ruing the day they signed his nomination papers only a few months ago. They should be suitably chastened, because their actions now look foolish indeed! I hope they are proud of themselves for the shame they helped to bring to our Town.
