As I was falling asleep, it came to me! Has anything changed?

Former Chief Commissar, now Supreme Chief Commissar of Rotherham, Roger Stone,  local Politburo chief and self styled ‘Dear Leader’ is said to be ‘basking in Labour’s local election results’ and is claiming to everyone who will listen that theirs was a ‘truly historic victory of monumental proportions and is a total vindication of his vision for the future’.

I am now able to bring you his leaked communication to the faithful citizens of Rotherham. Despite it’s contents being a State secret our ‘Dear Leader’ assures me he won’t have me sent to the Gulag this time, as secretly, he really wants you to know about his most magnificent recent electoral achievements and the Politburos selfless approach to public service.

Supreme Chief Commissar, Roger Stone, Rotherham’s ‘Dear Leader’. Basking in Victory, speaks to his people.

My People! (I like that one, I got it from the odious MacShane in ’97, thinking about it, haven’t seen much of him since then?) Your votes have proved once again that Labour in Rotherham is an invincible force at the ballot box and the old maxim that a donkey could get elected with the right colour rosette stuck on it, is as true today, as it ever was.

All our candidates won, except for the ones that didn’t that is, some voters even actually voted themselves in person this year, because of the General Election.

Our local government campaign was breathtaking in conception and has never been bettered, by doing almost no campaigning at all, we caught the voters off guard and surprised them at the last minute into voting for us.

I would like to congratulate the thousands of volunteers that responded to the call and delivered this masterful campaign of almost complete inaction. Hero of the Revolution second class, has been awarded to comrade Chester, who dreamed it all up, but of course I had already thought of it first as your ‘Dear Leader’ is infallible, just like our spiritual father and still overall leader, the ‘Great Leader’ Layden, who is running things behind the scenes although we don’t see much of him these days.

The counter-revolutionary capitalist Tories have been routed!

Long live the Revolution! Long live the Rotherham Soviet! Long live Comrade Supreme Chief Commissar, our ‘Dear Leader’ Roger Stone, Hero of the Revolution First Class and our ‘Great Leader’ Layden, now departed but still running things, Hero of the Revolution First, First Class. Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!

I can assure you, ‘My People’, that all your Politburo members are unanimous in being prepared to continue enduring the endless functions, dinners and conferences and the beer, wine, spirits and numerous other alcoholic beverages that we have to drink, so you don’t have to. Our Rotherham Alcohol Treatment And Reduction Strategic Enterprise Development (RATARSED) Programme is working well, it is our commitment to you, that over a ten year plan period we will have reduced the harm done by alcohol in our communities because we will be drinking it ourselves instead. The ten year plan calls for the Politburo to be making it’s contribution by upping it’s alcohol consumption from 25% to 35% in five years and a full 50% in ten years of the towns overall consumption. A truly public spirited and selfless act by the Politburo, you will agree, don’t forget, I know where you live, all of you, so do as I say!

We are the most ‘public spirited’ of all the ‘Peoples Soviets’ of the North and reject the counter-revolutionary approach of  ‘Cameron the Slash & Burn’ and his Liberal sycophant supporters of the reviled ‘Clegg the Turncoat’. They may be able to walk to work or travel second class but we can’t, largely down to the amount of selfless drinking we do on your behalf.

Before I close I want to reassure you that any ‘financial realignments’ (Cuts to you and me) will cause us much pain and anguish to us, as they will to you. I would again reassure you that the Politburo will not be sharing any of the pain you will have, if for no other reason than that given above,  largely down to the amount of selfless drinking we do on your behalf.

Onwards and upwards comrades, man the bars (surely barricades?) let’s get on with ‘business as usual’.

Finally, I have a new maxim for you all, ‘No cuts, No redundancies celebrate re-alignment and leave it with me’! Sing it in the bath, I insist that all ‘My People’ shout this twice a day at the top of their voices………………

At this point I woke up and thoughts of North Korea combined with Rotherham disappeared as soon as they came.

First published May 2010, still has a lot of resonance today!

Grald-Hunter brings us this pearl from MacShane!

Grald-Hunter the active and empowered Rotherham citizen, voter, council tax payer and regular Rotherham Politics commentator would like to share this special vomit-inducing nugget from Da Dokta MacSh**e’s twitter log today –

http://twitter.com/#!/DenisMacShane  It reads: “DenisMacShane Denis MacShane

“George really going to let his rich pals deduct cost of nannies from tax. Why not their cooks and butlers?”

Wow, the brass neck of this disgraced Labour Whip-less MP who was reported to have claimed for eight laptops in three years, apparently works out of a Rovrum garage, and is now apparently under police investigation for other alleged expenses irregularities.

Specially for Independents thinking of standing next May!

Next week at Bramley Parish Hall, Independents from around the borough, will be meeting at 19:00 next Tuesday 27th September to begin the campaign leading up to next May’s Borough Council elections. Everyone welcome!

Rotherham Independents are part of the National Independent Network and are committed to the ‘Bell Principles’ as the foundation for their activities.

They are a ‘self help’ group for Independents, member led and committed to providing support not normally available to Independents at a local level. Fighting elections can be very expensive and a minefield of obstacles are placed in the way of Independent candidates, staying legal can be quite a challenge as recent experience has shown.

“Rotherham Independents cordially invite all members of the public considering standing as or wishing to support Independent candidates standing in the Borough Council elections next May, to join us at Bramley Parish Hall, Next Tuesday 27th September at 19:00.

We will be beginning our preparations and this meeting may well prove useful to all Independents, even those who do not want to be part of our group, may well find this evening very useful later on.”

Peter Thirlwall
Spokesperson Rotherham Independents

Update: I thought this information piece might at the very least excite some comment – little did I expect to shake the two Labour members out of hiding that it has.

Firstly  Community Champion, a Labour member who hails from Conisborough and a callow youth and secondly Stewart Platt, a Labour member From Maltby who is also a Maltby Town Councillor and who is definitely old enough to know better, have been misbehaving while the shop was left unattended! I hope these two miserable Labour specimens, might reflect on their evident foolishness, childishness or even worse and apologise, on behalf of their party for bringing Labour and Maltby Town Council in to disrepute and subject to ridicule!

The attitudes displayed are an affront to democracy especially when coming from members of  ‘a mainstream left-wing democratic political party’, they display all the arrogance of power, Labour dictatorships in both their home boroughs, a basic disdain of anyone who challenges them at the polls, or their opinions or indeed even asks questions!

New life breathed into Scum Labour post

When the previous post of 31st August, Old Labour – New Labour – Scum Labour in Rotherham’s Stone Age! I mistakenly thought the originator of the term ‘Scum Labour’ was our good friend ‘Trambuster’, but I was wrong. The originator was in fact Michael Elmer of the Christian Peoples Alliance, the British version of the Christian Democrats.

He was responding to the Gerald Smith affair and was outraged at his repetition of serious libels about the nature of Christian Democracy. Given the provocation, I am surprised he expressed himself in such measured terms in his letter published in the Advertiser.

The response he elicited from Denis MacShane, Chief exponent and role model of Rotherham’s Scum Labour, was revelatory, as was the defence of Labour in Rotherham from a non member! Worth the cover price alone, still some left on the news stands, get yours.

Ed Miliband was not included in ‘Scum Labour’, but he will be, if he does nothing about the fundamentally broken Labour politics, that we the long suffering citizens of Rotherham have to endure.

Update: Original post 45 views today and most popular and has clocked up a total of 95 views since August 31st.

Gerald Smith condemns himself in own words! Is he stupid or dissembling?

The Advertiser this week reported on the issuing to Gerald Smith of a formal police caution for an election offence, can’t give you a link to the story as it is only in the print edition, not online, pity! I quote:

‘A police spokeswoman said Cllr Smith had admitted publishing a leaflet without his name on it. She added: “He was given a verbal caution which is a formal warning in respect of failing to put the relevant information on an election leaflet as required by law.”‘ My emphasis.

So far so good. The advertiser then reported Smith’s viewpoint:

‘Cllr Smith stood by the content of the leaflet this week, adding that the absent publication detail was a simple oversight. He said: “It was a mistake. The leaflet said it was published by the party but I had missed my name off. When I went to the police station they asked if I would accept a caution. I said yes, because we don’t want to waste taxpayers money on this by going to court. They had my other leaflets, which had my name on them. They were happy that it was just an error.’

Then I remembered Smith had a letter published in June in the Advertiser letters columns, pretty bad tempered and readers should note repeats the libels contained in the illegal leaflet itself, I quote it in full as it provides evidence of this councillors significant breach of all codes of conduct applicable to Smith!

‘Pilloried in letter
Sir-I am not the first nor will I be the last to be pilloried by Jim Fletcher (see Advertiser letters, June 10th) for telling the truth.
Fletcher states that information in the leaflet was untrue and libellous. As he did not mention all of what was in the leaflet I will.
It made the comment that David Gee, over 44 full parish council meetings in the four-year term of office, had neither made a comment nor asked a question and then went on to say: “Do you want to be represented by the silent man.”
As J. Fletcher has attended about two meetings in the four year he wouldn’t know either way.
David Gee was re-elected with just five votes over the nearest candidate. At the ensuing first meeting of the new term of office he had the opportunity to challenge me over the leaflet. He remained silent, as usual.
The comments on Paul Martin, who registered his last political affiliation at the parish council as Christian Democrat, Which to my information is a far right European organisation. This can be verified by the parish clerk.
This man also reported a fellow parish councillor to the police in 2010 for spying on him at a rally in the town centre organised by P. Thirlwall.
The councillor went to the rally to see if anything was to be done about the flooding in the area as he had been completely flooded out twice over two years.
This is not what one would call a Christian act, is it Mr Fletcher? But then, you would know all about right-wing politics as your political stance is right of Atilla the Hun.
The indent on the leaflet stated published and printed on behalf of Holderness Lab Party at 4 brook Close, Aston.
I think that should be sufficient and legal.
Cllr Gerald Smith, Rotherham Borough Council. Bramley.’

Tales from the Town Hall has reported on another interesting angle to this story:

‘The Cops, The Councillor And The Caution

There’s never a dull moment in Rotherham. A councillor slags off two hopefuls in a parish council election, he then gets cautioned by the police for his name not being on the leaflet, and now Rotherham Council claims the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire could himself have broken the law. Click for full story.’

Are we witnessing here, the abuse of the officers code of conduct, using council employees to provide legal advice and resources on political matters? It certainly looks like it to me!

One thing is quite obvious, at least to me, that Gerald Smith may have accepted a caution but he has not fulfilled the other criterion that of acceptance of guilt! Surely this makes the caution invalid?

The other issue that has not been adequately dealt with is the outrageous libels committed firstly in the leaflet that had a limited circulation but repeated casually in his letter above, published to a significantly larger number.

The current state of defamation law and the extraordinarily high cost of litigation makes protecting reputations through the civil courts prohibitively expensive and justice available to only the very rich indeed! Which makes Smith’s repetition of these outrageous lies about fellow parish councillors and opposing candidates egregious and totally intolerable in a member of a political party pretending to open democratic politics! This abuse should certainly be enough for the Labour Party to take issues of Smith’s unacceptable behaviour by their own members and elected position holders, I wonder? But don’t hold your breath!

This perhaps is the most serious of all the problems facing this egregiously arrogant, bullying and less than honest local politician whose time has clearly come to go! Doing nothing is no longer an option!

A big thank you to those of you who have already contacted Rothpol with background information on our Gerald. If you have your anecdote to share with us please see RikiLeaks. Gerald Smith guilty! takes his punishment!

We have learned that an important strand of the problems that surfaced in Aston cum Aughton during the later stages of the election campaign, has been resolved.

When the Aston cum Aughton Independents learned of the existence of a scurrilous election leaflet, produced and printed by Gerald Smith, they decided they were not going to take this, and made a formal complaint to the Police. The Police have been investigating ever since. The outcome can now be reported:

Last Friday, Councillor Gerald Smith was formally cautioned by the Police for his actions associated with the issuing by him, of a scurrilous election leaflet.

We at Rotherham Politics understand that this means that he has therefore admitted his guilt and now has a conviction on his record!

The ramifications of this will take some time to become fully apparent. A reference to the Standards Board for bringing the Council into disrepute, perhaps? Or suspension from the labour whip at RMBC? Now standing convicted of election offences it is difficult to see him remaining in the bosom of the party, especially once the Regional Party hears about this embarrassing situation. To complain yourself, email them  yorkshire@new.labour.org.uk.

Ed Miliband, also a local MP, will not want Rotherham Labour Group to bring any further embarrassment to him or the party over an issue as clear cut as this!

Gerald Smith could always do the honourable thing and stand down from the elected positions he holds himself. He can’t be taken seriously ever again and he must go!
