Second Rotherham taxi protest planned today
Rotherham taxi drivers vowed to carry on with strike action with another protest set for 4pm today.
Drivers withdrew their services in response to new licensing laws set to come in on July 6, which will make drivers install CCTV cameras in the wake of child sexual exploitation scandal.

Pointless really, only about 50 this morning turned up which is less than 5% of the total drivers. Seems the mob is fighting a lost cause. What police should do is direct the idiots along and fast track them out of town. If they come back arrest them for loitering.

they have had Rotherham gridlocked from about 4.30pm and it still was at 6.20pm. People stuck in the queues are furious at them. Others are parked up at herringthorpe stadium waiting for call to be called to join the queues as an when required. But they are travelling with 2 or 3 in a car and some members of the public have complained of abuse from those in taxis

I cant stop myself but to suggest that this is not only the Taxi drivers fault, its also the councils fault. I’m not a friend of the Taxi drivers but Council does charge a lot of money and yet has very little to show for it. But on the up side I did not see a congestion that I normally see on my way home from work on the end of Parkway. So I’m supporting this protest….. everyday please at 4pm please. Thank you..

Some base operators shud be ashamed of themselves by not supporting the drivers.
They shud of suspended all rotherham school contracts as theirs only couple weeks left for school holidays.
But from these blogs you can see theirs lot of racism in rotherham which is ashame. The hypocrite public needs to show some support toward drivers as it’s them who take them from A to Z.

The strike is pretty much now been turned from a protest from the drivers not about the CCTV (it was NEVER about CCTV but the cost and all the other costs with upgrading cars supposedly in the name of stopping CSE) but a Fast 4 led protest towards A1 Taxis.
For years Fast 4 have wanted in on the council and hospital contracts that A1 have had. A1 drivers were told yesterday that if they had a contracted school run and didn’t do it then an instruction had come from Karl Battersby to withdraw it permanently from that driver. Hence this morning you saw some A1 drivers doing their school run and then going straight back home and on strike.

I went on the afternoon protest. It was a waste of time once it reached St Anns Roundabout because then it was met by traffic coming from Eastwood and Parkgate. I’m a bit embarrassed that I went on it and it’s not sent out any positive messages to the public, more just a case of at least my fellow taxi drivers have seen my face there.
Once returning to Herringthorpe the owners of Fast 4 soon turned the anger of the baying mob away from against the council towards the owners of A1. Due to their jealousy at not having any school contracts they managed to get the baying mob to join in their anger at A1 and A1 drivers doing school contracts.
I’m doing my school contracts tomorrow but now on TWO occasions the owners of Fast 4 have advocated smashing up the cars of any A1 drivers doing a school run. Some of the baying mob cheered this. Those school children have to get to school. Fast 4 don’t care about them as they don’t have the contracts.
By the way Goldstar, 1st Class and Travellers also have school contracts. It’s just A1 and it’s drivers that are the target now sadly.

Are the police doing there jobs and prosecuting the drivers for regulation 103 Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 and (causing or permitting a vehicle to stand on a road so as to cause an unnecessary obstruction) (Wilkinson’s 6.20); r just turning a blind eye AGAIN

Vehicles were not standing on the road. That as you quite rightly said is illegal. As long as vehicles are moving it makes the protest legal.
The reason that vehicles appeared to be stationary therefore are due to the sheer number of vehicles taking part in the protest, held up by roadworks and traffic lights.

If drivers had any sense they wouldn’t allow the paedos of fast 4s to speak for them because as previously stated 2 of them are being investigated for cse, but I get the impression these drivers are brainless thugs.

There were Asian taxi drivers driving around giving abuse to other taxi drivers who did not know about the strike or aren’t members of the RPHDA. No doubt these were bully boys sent by the owners of Fast 4.
It is not right that the RPHDA can call a strike just by a show of hands in a restaurant. The vast majority of taxi drivers in Rotherham are self employed and they have bills to pay now, never mind in the future when the CCTV comes in.
The RPHDA needs to be dismantled and a proper elected board from a democratic process needs to be established that can speak for its members but also recognise that those drivers who are not it’s members can work as they feel the need to as they are self employed.
