Approaching the cliff edge?

In Rotherham Labour Land there is now a grudging acceptance that their own failings contributed to the local election losses & that without change the same may happen next year.
In fact there is little they can do in the short term about their reputation & election prospects in what is likely to be a troubled 10 months, as the bad news piles up

What is coming up?

* Publication of the ‘independent’ report into Child Sex Exploitation commissioned by the Council themselves.

* Part two of the Barnardo’s evaluation of CSE prevention services in Rotherham is due (I’m suspicious that they may try and kill it after they had to publish a deceitful press release to cover up the criticisms in the first one.)

* SYP should be announcing the results of the case reviews into historic claims of CSE. It feels like this was launched by Sir Robert Peel, so surely something is due soon.

* The Dodger wanting to get through a few of his pet, but electorally unpopular, projects before he rides off to an apartment on the Black Sea coast (joke?) e.g. the environmental wrecking of several nice green sites.e.g. Herringbone Playing Field

* Submissions to be made by lawyers representing the 25 girls who allege the Council & Police failed to protect them from CSE, where insiders are now saying that names will be named in open court.

* Whatever comes out in the Barry Dodson affair, which is described to me as yet again presenting Rotherham in a bad light.

* Budget cuts will bite harder, including for primary healthcare & children’s services.

This is in the context of increased public awareness about CSE, generated firstly by the Savile revelations and now the parliamentary inquiry into paedophilia cover ups within the public sector.

The regional and national LP have received warnings & allegations of shady goings on to suppress and cover up CSE failings (e.g. Keith Vaz’s report), but have done nothing obvious about them….ooops. My guess Ed Miliband will be restructuring the regional office priorities as I write if not before.

  1. It will be another hammering at the ballot box. I would not be surprised if UKIP took all the seats. I feel very sorry for those ex councilors who had no option but to start bin raiding to make ends meet however it should give then an idea of how some of the electorate have to live these days

  2. No doubt this report explains the turmoil within Rotherham Labour party. My own view is that by getting rid of the current leadership ‘New Rotherham Labour’ will pursue a damage limitation exercise ie: ‘Not me Guv, it was the Big Boys wot done it’.
I understand stab proof vests are now standard issue to Labour councillors.

  3. When will the council refuse to impose/collect the bedroom tax and get their hands dirty doing the tories work?
What is Ukips position on collecting bedroom tax?

  4. UKIP position is very clear and I believe I am the only councillor to have tried to have this evil tax challenged and have tried to get Rotherham Council to use the legal loophole of bedroom size to downgrade and enable some people affected to be exempted from this
But Akhtar at the time as deputy refused to even look at it
The reason was money and loss of housing rent revenue because if they had done this they would have had to down grade some So called 2 bed bungalows to 1 bed and reduce the rent to reflect
So that’s why they won’t do it
And for the record it was Milliband who introduced the Bedroom tax on private rented property when he was a minister Duncan smith then extended it to all properties
So that’s UKIP’ s stance on this

    • The bedroom tax is responsible for the deaths of many people. I know that Local Councillors especially Labour did not believe they could do anything to stop its implementation despite the legal loop holes. I believe UKIP need to look at policy matters in terms of creating a fairer society financially and they could start by declaring that they would get rid of this tax and it’s associated suffering!

      • You are quite right Anonymous but I have to ask why you have hijacked this thread to post on an unrelated matter? The subject here is the infighting and turmoil between Labour councillors on RMBC and what effects the outcome will have on the residents of Rotherham. Whatever happens in this battle between Labour councillors they outnumber UKIP councillors 5:1 and no amount of criticism of UKIP can or will alter this.
There does not appear to be any support for RMBC Labour councillors from the usual suspects on this and other related threads this week. How strange. Or not.

  5. I agree with Colin, and this hijacking is becoming all too common. It is an abuse of Riks policy to allow debate to range as freely and diversely as possible. For my part I write for many reasons, and when I write I try to do something fresh, I research and sometimes put a lot of work in.
It is galling when people simply can’t be ar**d to write articles themselves, becoming parasites on my work. And I’m certain that unless it reduces I and other contributors will get fed up and move elsewhere, and then the readership will move as well, thereby reducing the value of RothPol.
Recently sections have simply circular article between the same old blokes having the same old a go at each other, with nothing new added.
Caven, stop getting your mates to write in questions for you to answer, it is lain lazy. Instead write an article and submit direct to Rick. Probably no Party has benefited from RothPol, and Labour’s disengagement from debate more than UKIP, so to please respect it.
