We were lied to! Secret document FCO 30/1048 kept truth about EU from British for 30 years

A SECRET document, which remained locked away for 30 years, advised the British Government to COVER-UP the realities of EU membership so that by the time the public realised what was happening it would be too late.

Almost all of the shocking predictions – from the loss of British sovereignty, to monetary union and the over-arching powers of European courts – have come true.

But damningly for Tory Prime Minister Edward Heath, and all those who kept quiet about the findings in the early 70s, the document, known as FCO30/1048, was locked away under Official Secrets Act rules for almost five decades.

The classified paper, dated April 1971, suggested the Government should keep the British public in the dark about what EEC membership means predicting that it would take 30 years for voters to realise what was happening by which time it would be too late to leave.

That last detail was the only thing the disgraceful paper – prepared for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) – got wrong.

  1. After 30 yrs it would be too late to exit!
You will find, we never entered into the single currency, also you’ll find that after 45 years of this lost Nostradamus, proven incorrect, ask team brexit.

    The following is telling though!
‘predicting that it would take 30 years for voters to realise what was happening by which time it would be too late’

  2. There were many deceits over the decades. See “The great deception” by Booker and North.
If the whole EU project was such a good thing why the need to lie?
For example when we entered a “Common Market” it was denied that there was any loss of sovereignty. This was a lie. Heath and Wilson both knew this was a superstate in the making and sovereignty was to go.
We were given a European parliament as a sort of pretend Democratic fig leaf to cover the reality that the unelected Commission, an oligarchy, was intended to have real control from the very first papers produced by Salter and Delores in 1919 within the League of Nations!
The whole thing is an inefficient corrupt bureaucracy built on circumspect lies and deception.
We had Clegg say there was no plan for a European Army whilst it was actually being planned.
We just cannot trust our political elite of any party.
    Lies, lies, lies!

  3. The Express story says “But damningly for Tory Prime Minister Edward Heath, and all those who kept quiet about the findings in the early 70s, the document, known as FCO30/1048, was locked away under Official Secrets Act rules for almost five decades.” This is an utter untruth.
It was available here: http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C11018818 from 01 Jan 2002 having been produced in 1971.

After reading this and the assumptions detailed in this page brief by the Express, I think ‘That paper’ has been cleared by Gina Miller at the high court, sovereignty was with Parliament.

      • I just hate s**t journalism, and this is what that piece is.
I accept that people have different views on UK leaving the EU, but the nonsense spouted by the Express and the Daily Mail is IMHO totally unacceptable.
